The April 6 Afro Roots Fest concert in Miami Beach will be all about the feminine spirit of world music, featuring a double bill of African chanteuses and a team of local dancers. Mauritanian Griot Noura Mint Seymali and Malian singer / guitarist Fatoumata Diawara will perform at the North Beach Bandshell (7275 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33141), as will the African Watoto Dance Theatre. This is the first official concert of the Afro Roots Fest’s 21st season; doors open at 6:30 p.m.

All-In for All-Stars charity poker is our annual flagship event in South Florida. Now in its 5th year, this exclusive event has raised over $2.1M for the 90,000 at-risk youth served daily by After-School All-Stars in South Florida and across the country. After-School All-Stars has been dedicated to helping low-income kids for 25 years and was founded by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver.

Hosted by Wayne Boich, Mark Groussman, Sean Posner and Michael Simkins, the distinguished annual event attracts a well-heeled guest list of 150 philanthropists, celebs, pro-athletes, and Hall-of-Famers. The afternoon starts out with red carpet coverage from our media partners, then quickly shifts gears into a very private cocktail party with a relaxed feel for the jet-setter crowd. As the charity poker tournament kicks off, so does the excitement of the NCAA FINAL FOUR games streaming live on HD screens throughout. UnitedHealthcare will host A Better You, a series of health and wellness educational events, on April 6 to help seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries learn more about Medicare and their health care coverage options.

The events will feature the following list of renowned keynote speakers and musical performances to engage and motivate participants in a celebration of health. Speakers and performers include:

• 82-year-old record-breaking bodybuilder, Ernestine Shepherd partners with A Better You to encourage people to seek optimal physical and mental health at all ages by sharing her personal story.
• Local leader Rev. Arthur Jackson lll of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church will be sharing a word on inspirational guidance.
• Rita Tolbert from UnitedHealthcare will walk attendees through the basics of Medicare – including the different parts of the program, eligibility requirements and enrollment windows – to help them make informed health care coverage decisions.
• Attendees will also enjoy the live music and high-energy performance of legendary vocal group The Persuasions.
