Shop ‘til you drop, and this time for a great cause! ‘Fashion’s Night Out’ arrives in South Florida to celebrate local fashion, restore consumer confidence and boost the neighborhood economy. The event, hosted by Beauty Chronicles and open to the public, will take place Sept. 10 from 6 p.m. to 11pm at the Eden Roc Renaissance in Miami Beach.

The initiative is a collaboration consisting of every aspect of the fashion industry: stores, designers, celebrities and the average consumer. Individual vendors create unique spaces that, collectively, become a large exposition fashion as a whole. In Fashion’s Night Out at the Eden Roc Renaissance there will be multiple Fashion Shows, as well as appearances by several celebrities and performers. Additionally, a percentage of the sales from every Fashion’s Night Out T-shirt sold will benefit the NYC AIDS fund. These will be available for purchase on-site.

The city of Miami has several locations that are celebrating Fashion’s Night Out, Beauty Chronicles brings a unique twist to the typical shopping event with Actor and Celebrity host, Robert Ri’Chard. The guest will sip complimentary cocktails and munch on sweet treats. Fashionistas can spend the night shopping emerging and established fashion and accessories designers. There will be several fashion shows throughout the night. The first 100 guests will receive a fabulous Swag Bag filled with beauty and fashion gifts.

Cutting-edge gallery celebrates the debut of its darkest exhibit to-date coinciding with the opening of its new store CG Boutique

Calix Gustav Gallery is pleased to announce the unveiling of its newest exhibition “Mörker,” along with the gallery’s new CG Boutique, a smaller gallery intended for the younger art collector. Coinciding with the Wynwood Arts District’s monthly art walk, an intimate reception will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m on Saturday, September 11, 2010.

Signifying the gloomy darkness seen through a child’s dreams – and nightmares – Mörker is possibly the gallery’s darkest, most thought-provoking exhibit to-date. With his charcoal and ink drawings of a magical and mysterious Scandinavian forest inhabited by eerie, mystical characters, Swedish artist Johan Björkegren provokes feelings of child-like fears. In contrast, the longing for comfort is not lost in the innocence of a child and the warm love of a mother as artists Ingrid Eliasson and Jennifer Basile bring a calming effect with their lurid fantasies seen through detailed, structured graphite drawings, which are juxtaposed over the rich biomorphic backgrounds. The feeling of a “cozy home” is amplified by crocheted fiber tapestries.

Also available to visitors for the first time is CG Boutique, a smaller gallery intended for the younger art collector. The first featured artist, Birds Are Nice (BAN), a local graphic designer whose inspiration is derived from the desire to have fun and make light-hearted, urban work that references pop culture along with the comic and cartoon genres. Using illustration, digital mediums, sculpture, animation and video, BAN considers itself a self-taught artist as most of the materials and techniques used in the current work were outside of a formal art education.

Taking inspiration from the graffiti artists of our time, such as Word to Mother, Know Hope, and countless others, Birds Are Nice wishes to raise awareness on its work in unconventional ways via several traveling outdoor projects. BAN feels the art world takes itself too seriously – low brow vs. high brow, street art vs. gallery art. BAN’s view, art is art and aims to have people stumble upon the work and experience a moment of spontaneous laughter.

Mörker will run from September 11, 2010 through November 19, 2010. Regular gallery visiting hours are from Tuesday to Saturday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information visit www.calixgustav.com.

ANIMIAMI was created to increase and improve the dialogue between students, educational institutions and the animation industry in the hopes of providing students and industry leaders the opportunity to express their views and expectations while creating an informative, yet nurturing environment to help students transition from university student to industry professional. The conference will also focus on exposing the industry’s real expectations, needs and competencies required of new professionals.

ANIMIAMI will be composed of various elements: an animation festival featuring an Animation Expo of professional work, conference workshops and speakers, a job fair and an industry exhibit expo.

The animation festival will provide an opportunity for professionals and students to enter their work and compete in various categories (including student and professional categories in animation for gaming, advertising, and theatrical animation respectively).

Students will compete for internship opportunities in some of the best animation studios around the country. In addition, the festival will feature some of the best work produced by industry professionals. The conference workshops and speakers portion of the event will include the above mentioned renowned speakers. It has been designed to be a forum for active networking and information exchange with strong a commitment and emphasis on education to develop and nourish new talent. Additionally, the event will include a job fair which will provide and serve the animation industry as a resource for talent in both animation and computer graphics. Finally, an exhibit expo will bring together industry vendors that will showcase new technologies as well as advances in the industry by the leading software and hardware manufacturers around the country.
