Get your taste buds ready! With more vendors and more flavor than before, the 2nd Annual Plant-Based Festival will be held at Gulfstream Park Village, South Florida’s premier entertainment destination, on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 11:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. The event will showcase the latest in food, drink and plant-based goods coming to The Village Center. The festival, located in the Gulfstream Park Village shopping area, will feature a main stage for presenters, music, giveaways from merchants, 60+ plant-based vendors, and contests for the kids. This is a free and family-friendly event.

Aventura Hospital’s Nutrition and Diabetes Educator Michelle Larea will be introducing the event and discussing why plant-based diets and lifestyles are positive for human health and the Earth.

Attendees should come ready for fun and ready to eat by bringing their own reusable water bottle, cup or cutlery to cut down on waste. Alternatives will be available, but every little bit helps! Inspired by the City’s Plastic Straw Ban, Gulfstream Park Village will be giving away multi-color stainless-steel reusable straws to the first 500 attendees.

Time to get the popcorn popping! The new year is bringing a new family-friendly event series to Gulfstream Park Village, South Florida’s premier entertainment destination. Every Friday of the month, families are invited to join Gulfstream Park Village at Family Fun Fridays – Movies in the Park to watch a movie. Attendees will be offered free popcorn, ice cream specials from Häagen-Dazs, and pizza and soda specials from La Pizzeria prior to and during each show. Specials are available for kids under 10 years of age who are accompanied by an adult.

At select shows, guests will have the opportunity for a meet and greet with characters at 5:30 p.m. before the movie begins at 6:30 p.m. The characters will only be available for pictures prior to the movie. Characters Buzz and Woody from Toy Story will be at the first Family Fun Fridays – Movies in the Park on Jan. 10.

We all scream for ice cream! Gulfstream Park invites ice cream lovers to celebrate Free Cone Day on Tuesday, May 14 at Häagen-Dazs. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., the ice cream shop will offer all guests a free cone and guests will be able to choose from select flavors. In addition, Gulfstream Park will be hosting an afternoon of free entertainment at Champions Plaza featuring an interactive DJ, face painting, balloons, sing-alongs, and appearances by characters from Frozen. There will be Olaf Meet and Greets starting at 4:30 p.m., which will be followed by a character show at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Last year, Häagen-Dazs at Gulfstream Park served over 5,700 scoops and was the number one store in the country to participate in Free Cone Day. This year, the Gulfstream Park shop hopes to surpass that number by inviting customers to welcome summer with a sweet and refreshing treat. Rob Schell, director of franchise development at Häagen-Dazs, will be joining the fun at Gulfstream Park as well.

Amanda Perna is a mom, wife & fashion expert (and Broward native!) who believes in looking beyond the easy road to follow your dreams. While studying fashion design at the University of Alabama, Amanda achieved her dream: a design internship at Oscar de la Renta and the following summer an internship at Calvin Klein. With an entrepreneurial spirit, at the ripe old age of 19 she started her first fashion brand. Before graduating college, Amanda was offered a job at Calvin Klein, which she gladly accepted and finished her studies a semester ahead of schedule to start living her dream. Against the advice of everyone she knew, Amanda quit her job and started the house of Perna. Her designs have been sold in major retailers such as Anthropologie, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s & Neiman Marcus. On a constant quest to push herself, Amanda has also had a variety of experiences and collaborations. She has been featured as a textile designer and fashion illustrator for brands such as hallmark and Neiman Marcus.

She also styles celebrities for national commercials. Above all else, Amanda believes in helping others. She is a mentor to students and works with many new brands to help them achieve their dreams too. P.S. She was also on project runway twice.

Gulfstream Park invites ice cream lovers to celebrate Free Cone Day on Tuesday, May 8 at Häagen-Dazs. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., the ice cream shop will offer all guests a free cone with the ice cream flavor of their choice. In addition, Gulfstream Park will be hosting an afternoon of free entertainment at Champions Plaza featuring an interactive DJ, face painting, sing-alongs, and appearances by characters from Frozen. There will be Olaf Meet and Greets starting at 4:30 p.m., which will be followed by a character show at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Last year, Häagen-Dazs at Gulfstream Park served over 5,700 scoops and was the number one store in the country to participate in Free Cone Day. This year, the Gulfstream Park shop hopes to surpass that number by inviting customers to welcome summer with a sweet and refreshing treat.

Gulfstream Park will celebrate Thoroughbred Aftercare on Saturday, March 24 when it plays host to Florida TRAC Day, featuring retired horses, meet-and-greets with jockeys, dachshund races and an on-line auction.

Florida Thoroughbred Retirement and Adoptive Care (TRAC) was created in 2009 to find “forever” homes for retired Thoroughbreds. The inaugural Florida TRAC Day will begin at 8 a.m. with Breakfast at Gulfstream and continue during live racing beginning at noon.

During Breakfast at Gulfstream fans can meet Skip Away (G3), Fred Hooper (G3), Monmouth Cup (G2) and Iselin (G3) winner Valid, who earned $1 million before being sold for $15,000 at the Keeneland January Sale in 2017. Juarez, who won his first graded stakes aboard Valid, adopted the gelding when his return to the races was unsuccessful in Nebraska. Juarez will also attend Breakfast at Gulfstream. 

Throughout the day Gulfstream will share stories of retired Thoroughbreds in new careers, including two recently-adopted from Florida TRAC by two-time bronze medal winning U.S. Pan American Team rider Todd Minikus.

Florida TRAC Day will also include Dachshund races beginning at 11 a.m., and a Florida TRAC booth where those donating will receive a free t-shirt and magnet.

Florida Grand Opera celebrates the start of another exciting season with its highly-anticipated season preview celebration – in a lively lounge setting. On October 23, 2014, the annual affair takes over at Hallandale’s modern steakhouse, III Forks, and showcases some of the most beloved pieces that audiences will enjoy throughout FGO’s upcoming season, all performed by FGO’s newest group of Young Artists.

Located five minutes from Hallandale Beach, III Forks is a contemporary take on an upscale steakhouse. This evening of beautiful music will also feature complimentary wine and light bites, followed by an optional dinner with the Young Artists after the event. This free event is open to the public, but an RSVP is requested. JAFCO (Jewish Adoption & Foster Care Options Charity) Announces 3rd Annual Chanukah Luncheon Charity Hosts Luncheon to Raise Money to Fulfill the Chanukah Wishes of JAFCO’s Children

JAFCO co-chairs Gayle Yagman and Monica Egozi are proud to host JAFCO’s 3rd Annual Chanukah Miracles Luncheon for the children of JAFCO on December 11, 2012. The goal of this luncheon is to ensure that the children of JAFCO will be able to celebrate Chanukah and have all of their holiday wishes fulfilled. The event will host 400 guests and will be held at the Westin Diplomat Golf Resort & Spa in Hallandale, Florida. JAFCO’s mission is to care for abused, neglected, and special needs children in the Jewish community, and to work in partnership with families and the entire child welfare community. JAFCO provides children with shelter, kosher food, clothing, education, medical and dental care, therapy, recreational activities, birthday and Jewish holiday celebrations and anything else necessary to help these children heal from the trauma of their abuse. Festival of Souls welcomes South Florida to the 1st Annual Halloween Event, an all-encompassing Halloween experience you’ll never forget at Gulfstream Park, South Florida’s premier outdoor shopping, dining and gaming destination located in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

This year’s premiere event will feature entertainment for all ages. There will be Safe Trick-or-Treating so that the little goblins can have a safe and happy Halloween in an exciting setting. Then, experience South Florida’s Top Haunted House Demon Mansion, an 8,000 sq. ft. Haunted House and Zombie Safari, a mile long Zombie Paintball Safari featuring real live Zombies. The highlight of the evening will be a live Flash Mob to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” performed by SkyDance Studios in front of Demon Mansion. They will make you scream as they perform at 8 P.M., 8:45 P.M. and 9:30 P.M. A block party with live music by Resident Evil DJ Maximus 3000 will keep the crowd pumped and excited during the evening and in a perfect closing the official after hours party for The Festival of Souls “ZOMBIE PLAYMATES” will take place at Martini Bar.

The 17 frightening rooms within the Mansion feature the Howling Woman Room, the Maggot Dining Room, Hell’s Kitchen, Butcher Shop / Freezer, Exploding Bathroom, Jungle Room, Spider Room, Demon Dog Porch, Electrocution Room, Scary Clown Room, Cemetery of the Undead and the Redneck Tool Shed to name a few. The Zombie Paintball Safari will be the highlight of the event. Guests will take a trip into the 50,000 sq. ft. ruins of an apocalyptic city where they will shoot live Zombies with paintball guns shooting UV paint.
Consider yourself warned! This will be a South Florida Halloween experience like no other!

The Monster Agency Announces The Terrifying 1st Annual Festival of Souls this October 2012, this year’s Premier Halloween Event in South Florida.

The Festival Of Souls is a 19 day Halloween event featuring an 8,000 Square ft. Haunted House known as the Demon Mansion, so frightening it will test your will and shake your courage as you make your way through a labyrinth of demons and creatures of the night.

The Festival of Souls invites all ghouls, vampires, witches, ghosts and goblins to come out and celebrate the scariest holiday of the year.

The festival’s second attraction is expected to be a major hit with aspiring zombie hunters as well. Ever wish you could shoot real Zombie’s? Well, here’s your chance. The Zombie Safari Paint Ball Hayride is A part of the Festival of Souls, as is night after night of phantasmagorical music, straight from the festival’s Resident Evil DJ, whose otherworldly tunes will entice, excite, and electrify visitors.

Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino is joining the fight against hunger by holding a July 4th Food Drive benefiting Feeding South Floridaâ„¢.

During the July 4th Family Celebration at Gulfstream Park, which begins at 4 p.m., participants can donate non-perishable foods such as peanut butter, cereal, tuna, rice, macaroni and cheese, protein foods, etc. to either the south or north valet areas. No glass items, please.

Each person donating non-perishable food items will be eligible to win a $500 drawing. The drawing will take place directly after the 9 p.m. fireworks.
Gulfstream Park’s July 4th Family Celebration will include a Kidz Zone, live music, fireworks, food, fun and more.

“We’re very thankful that Gulfstream Park is holding its July 4th Food Drive to benefit Feeding South Florida,” said Paco Vélez, CEO of Feeding South Florida. “Food drives such as this allow us to continue serving our nearly 600 partner agencies like The Pantry of Broward, Inc.”

According to Feeding South Florida’s records, 938,110 individuals in South Florida experience food insecurity; 340,740 of those are children. The food insecurity rate in South Florida is 16.9 percent. Recently, Feeding South Florida’s agencies are reporting a 39 percent increase in the demand for food services, due to the current economic climate.

Symphony in Lights runs from November 12th – December 31st, 2011

Community outreach project to kickoff two of South Florida’s premier culinary benefits, Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation Fort Lauderdale & Miami

Local chefs will take a short break from their kitchens to fill boxes with food for the hungry at Feeding South Florida to kickoff this year’s Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation Miami and Fort Lauderdale events. In support of this great effort, several Food Trucks will participate as well by selling lunch and donating partial proceeds back to the organization. So far chef participants who will work in the Feeding South Florida warehouse include Chef Allen’s, Inc., Joe’s Stone Crab, Fairmont Turnberry Isle, China Grill, BRIO Tuscan Grille, Blue Tree Café and Catered Bliss, and others will be announced closer to Thursday.

The public is invited to play a part in the service day, which will also include a DJ from Mike Sipe Entertainment.

South Florida’s premier culinary benefits return to the Broward County Convention Center on Thursday, June 2 and then to the legendary Fairmont Turnberry Isle resort on Thursday, July 7. All ticket sales will be contributed to Share Our Strength, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization working to end childhood hunger in America.

During the community service day, chefs will tour Feeding South Florida’s Broward headquarters and will spend a couple hours assisting the distribution center’s staff and volunteers with sorting donated food items and checking for expiration dates, dents, damages and leaks.

Each year, Miami-Dade and Broward’s hottest chefs and mixologists donate their time, talent and passion during Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation Miami with one goal in mind: to raise the critical funds needed to end childhood hunger. There are over 17 million kids in America with 637,000 of this total in Florida – that’s 1 in 4 children—who do not know when or where they’ll have their next meal. In South Florida, funds are distributed to a number of beneficiaries like Feeding South Florida, which is the state’s largest food bank. Piola will unveil a locally inspired Earth Day menu at its restaurants in Brickell, Miami Beach and Hallandale Beach April 19 – 23 to showcase the produce from the Roots In The City Overtown community garden.

Ten percent of Piola’s Earth Day proceeds will benefit Roots In the City, which provides affordable fresh produce to low-income families, public school students, community agencies and homeless shelters in Miami-Dade County.
Apart from the Earth Day menu, Piola’s five-day celebration will include the following at all three Pioloa South Florida locations:

• All Piola customers will receive a bag of seeds (including planting instructions) from the Roots In the City garden at the corner of Northwest Third Avenue and Northwest 10th Street.

More than 250,000 LED lights will be affixed to buildings and trees in The Village at Gulfstream Park’s Champions Plaza. These lights are programmed to blink in sync with recorded music by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The breathtaking show is created using 2,000 watts of sound, 47,000 feet of cable and 10 tons of holiday decorations. Symphony in Lights is choreographed by renowned light artist Carson Williams, who garnered fame after a home video of his Mason, Ohio home’s holiday light and music show made its way to YouTube in 2005.

On Saturday, November 20th, The Village at Gulfstream Park will host an official Symphony in Lights kick-off celebration at 6pm. Symphony in Lights will run every hour on the hour from 6pm – 11pm, beginning November 20th through December 31st.

Consumers in Miami, Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles can get behind the wheel of Volvo’s new sport sedan before it enters showrooms later this month

Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA) will host special consumer drive events to showcase its all-new S60 sport sedan as it was meant to be experienced – on the road. These events are part of the Naughty Volvo Tour – a series of experiential events to preview the S60 – which began in July and will continue through November.

“Initial feedback from the Naughty Volvo Tour has been extremely positive and has resulted in nearly 200 S60 pre-sales to date, which is impressive considering no one’s had the chance to drive the car yet. It really speaks to the strength of the car’s beautiful new design, the enthusiasm of our loyalists and Volvo’s reputation,” said Doug Speck, VCNA president and CEO. “We really focused on the driving dynamics to make the all-new S60 our sportiest Volvo ever so we’re excited to hear what people have to say once they drive it!”

The drive events will allow prospective buyers and car enthusiasts to take on the S60’s 300 horsepower T6 engine with AWD in a series of performance activities like a slalom demo, suspension bumps, an “S” cornering exercise and a timed autocross. They can also experience Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake, Volvo’s groundbreaking technological solution which utilizes a radar- and camera-based system to detect pedestrians in front of the car, warn the driver if someone walks into its path, and then automatically activate the S60’s full braking power if the driver fails to respond in time.

Attendees can participate in a competition to win an Apple® iPad, and will also be entered into a contest to win an all-new Volvo S60 and a trip to Sweden.
