It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and nothing sets the Holiday Season into full swing more than the lighting of Downtown Miami’s Christmas Tree. The iconic 50-foot tree that sits in the middle of Bayfront Park will serve as the center and focal point of the Bayskate roller-skating rink at Bayfront Holiday Village. On Saturday November 30, it will receive a celebrity filled countdown and illumination worthy of a million twinkling lights. South Florida celebrities and dignitaries will be on-hand to light the tree and set the LED animation into musical motion, including Mayor Francis Suarez of the City of Miami and Commissioner Joe Carollo, Chairman of the Bayfront Park Trust. The tree will trip the light fantastic to three different festive musical shows produced by Grammy winner, A.T. Molina, who is the original producer/creator of the Burrito Sabanero mix. Enrique Santos from Tu949 will join Sasha Jones, Consumer Investigative Reporter for NBC 6 and Alejandra Molina, News Anchor at Telemundo 51, to host the event, along with Santa Claus, who is scheduled to arrive in Miami fashion via a yacht. Together, they will make sure that this tree will continue to serve as Santa’s guiding light to Miami.

“This is a special tree, because after the initial lighting ceremony, we will have mini lighting ceremonies every night all the way through Christmas. Not just every night, but every hour,” says Tony Albelo, SWARM CEO and event organizer. Each night starting at 6PM, the park will become quiet, the music will rev up, and the tree will display one of the most beautifully animated light shows ever sequenced. Those who miss the initial tree-lighting ceremony on November 30, will have an opportunity to experience it again and again while enjoying hot cocoa and churros or sipping seasonal cocktails such as the Peppermint Mojito, Mistletoe Mule, White Christmas Margarita or Winter Bourbon Smash at the North Pole Beach Club.

The lighting of the 50-ft animated tree at Bayfront Holiday Village will mark the opening of this picture-perfect, outdoor, holiday venue filled with larger-than-life holiday displays, waterfront roller-skating, local vendors, nightly music and top food and drink offerings. Whether you’re chilling at the North Pole Beach Club, partaking in the Gnauhty Gnome Scavenger Hunt, or taking a selfie with Santa, there’s something for everyone!

This creative Miami Art Mob Team is ready to Mob your senses with Art, Music, Drinks and much more in the very ❤️ of Downtown Miami at the Historic Macy’s Building – on the Second Floor Gallery. Sixteen artists will display their Miami Marine Stadium seats artworks at the Miami Art Mob Exhibition at the Historic Macy’s Building in Downtown Miami during Art Basel. Our artists will also exhibit their incredible artwork.

The Marine Stadium seat artwork project is sponsored by the City of Miami.

The seats are a part of a larger effort to continue to build support for the restoration of the Miami Marine Stadium. In 2017, original seats of the Marine Stadium were given to artists to allow the artists to create new works of art. Artists were told that they could do anything with the seat-keep it as is, take it apart, incorporate it into other art-just create a new piece of art that is inspired by the Marine Stadium. To date, over 60 artists have completed work on the project. Much attention to the “If Seats Could Talk” project has been given by the Press during our four-month long museim exhibition in Miami Beach.

All of the seats can be seen at: www.restoremarinestadium.org All of the Marine Stadium seat artworks will be available for purchase during our 2019 Art Basel exhibition. Angela Shlyakhov of Anzhelika Productions will curate our exhibit, as she had done numerous times before. The exhibit will also feature special photographs of the Marine Stadium by photographer Pedro Suarez.

Originally built for boat racing in 1963, the Miami Marine Stadium-located on Virginia Key on the way to Key Biscayne-is considered an icon in Miami. The Stadium’s folded plate roof was at one time the longest piece of cantilevered in the world. The Stadium is on the Federal Register of Historic Places and has been recognized as a national treasure by the National Trust ForHistoric Preservation. During its years of operation through 1992, the Stadium featured boat races, special events, and concerts by performers such as The Who, Jimmy Buffett. Elvis Presley even filmed a movie there. Closed since 1992, the City of Miami is now developing plans for its restoration. Many of

Over 30 artists will be featured at the Miami Art Mob 2019 Art Basel exhibition. Most of the artists are very well known local artists. This is a last chance to see the Historic Downtown Miami Macy’s building empty before tenants move in.

To purchase Miami Marine Stadium seat artworks, contact Angela Shlyakhov at 305-915-2788.

Bayfront Holiday Village — A Bustling Wonderland Filled with Brilliant Lights, Shopping, Food and Entertainment Awaits in Downtown Miami

Bayfront Holiday Village Brings Daily Christmas Tree Lights Shows, Waterfront Roller-Skating, Local Vendors, Nightly Music and Top Food and Drink Offerings

Downtown Miami’s iconic Bayfront Park will transform into the magical Bayfront Holiday Village offering free, family-friendly programming all season long. Guests of all ages will enjoy daily 50 ft. Christmas tree LED light shows, waterfront roller-skating by Bayskate, over 50 local vendors, festive music and al fresco food and drinks.

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, locals and tourists alike will come for the weather, but stay for great shop-ping, entertainment and Miami’s version of a tropical winter wonderland.

“We know that New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles have pop-up holiday villages. We wanted to create a village where people would gather their loved ones and join in on some holiday cheer. Of course, we have something that the rest of the nation envies – our weather,” said Tony Albelo, event creator and CEO at SWARM.

Organizers want people to envision a quaint, picture-perfect, holiday outdoor venue filled with twinkling lights against Miami’s downtown skyline and waterfront Biscayne Bay. The picture-perfect, outdoor, holiday venue will be filled with twinkling lights and larger-than-life displays worthy of capturing the moment and posting it on Insta-gram.

“The only thing missing out of this Hallmark-perfect scene will be the frigid snow, but that’s why we invite our neighbors from the north to come here to enjoy Bayfront Holiday Village, Miami-style,” added Albelo.

Every night, a fully decorated, 50-foot state-of-the-art, animated Christmas Tree will feature hourly LED light shows sequenced to three different festive musical shows produced by Grammy-winning producer A.T. Molina.

New York has The Rink at Rockefeller Center, but Miami’s answer to cold-weather ice skating is Bay Skate, where adults and children can boogie to the beat of freestyle, tropical, contemporary pop and more. In the Northeast, peo-ple are ice skating and sipping hot cocoa wearing parkas. In Miami, we roller skate and sip mojitos in shorts. The Shops will offer a collection of 60 artisans in a jovial setting, each offering unique gift ideas to check off the “nice” list! Foodies will delight their senses at Bayfront Bites, where they’ll find seasonal beverages, sweet treats and food ga-lore!

The adventurous will participate in the Gnauhty Gnome Scavenger Hunt as they navigate Bayfront Park using guidebooks with clues to solve this year’s puzzle. Even fur babies will have a place of their own to hang out with free treats at the Santa Paws Dog Park, and every Sunday they’ll have Puppy Brunch!

The show is comprised of an international group of artists and collectives consider notions of shifting and porous borders—and how crossing borders has shaped our world. They articulate various aspects of the two scholars’ thoughts on race, diaspora, colonialization, creolization, language, and territory, particularly with regards to Miami’s position in a world that never stops turning. Located 2000 kilometers from the Amazon and 18 hours from Rio, the city of Brasília—the capital of Brazil—is a mythical place: a concrete utopia born out of the desert. In 1956 at the rebirth of Brazilian democracy, visionary architect Oscar Niemeyer and urbanist Lúcio Costa invented an urban plan and structures that would attempt to micromanage the daily activity of human life. The unabashed goal was to create the space that would birth “the new Brazilian citizen.” Now the stark beauty of the city acts as a backdrop to isolation, changing values, and the dynamic power and politics of today’s Brazil. The haunting ambience of Niemeyer and Costa’s dream echoes through the lives of a range of characters, each trying to make their mark in the city of today: Sergio, the stalwart urbanist who defends the city plan but knows it must adapt; Helize, studying to become a federal civil servant—the dream of so many Brazilian students—and Willians, a street vendor by day, who tries to find meaningful connection in a city built to divide. Brasilia: Life After Design takes us to a city rarely seen by the international viewer: what is it like to live in someone else’s idea?

This event will bring the Magic City’s witchiest constituents: its tarot and natal chart readers, who’ll pull cards or use the exact point in time you were born to uncover your cosmic fates (albeit career, romantic, or the skeletons you’d rather leave in your closet).

Each guest who checks in is gifted with a complimentary astro name tag with their sun, moon and rising signs on it, which is a great excuse to innocently figure out your crush’s sign!

There will be free shots for those whose natal moon is in the same sign that the moon is in that evening (so Scorpio moons luck out on May 16!). There will also be $1 PBRs all night long as well as experimental films will be beaming on the flat screens, and a mystical post-disco playlist be blasting on the speakers.

Artists Daniel Boyd and Andros Zins-Browne join curators Asad Raza and Rina Carvajal to consider ideas that underlie MOAD’s new exhibition Where the Oceans Meet. How have Lydia Cabrera and Édouard Glissant’s writings and methodologies influenced practices in contemporary art and curation? How do notions the two Caribbean writers explored (such as globality, creolization, and cosmology) help us make sense of historic narratives and our contemporary moment? What does it mean to think, live, and act where the oceans meet.

This event inaugurates the Museum of Art and Design at MDC’s new exhibition, Where the Oceans Meet (May 26 to September 29, 2019) curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Asad Raza, Gabriela Rangel, and Rina Carvajal. Where the Oceans Meet is an exhibition of modern and contemporary art that resonates with the pioneering thought of two Caribbean writers, Lydia Cabrera and Édouard Glissant. The international group of thirty-eight artists and collectives in the exhibition considers notions of shifting and porous borders—geographic, national, cultural, social, racial, ethnic, and linguistic—and how crossing borders has shaped our world.

Zins-Browne’s The Chaos Opera draws upon Glissant’s defense of chaos as a mechanism for embracing difference. The performance brings together voices from diverse musical traditions—R&B, bolero, death metal, rap, and opera—to explore how different voices might cohabitate in the same space without capitulating, assimilating, or forcing cohesion. Rather than the idealized harmonies of “fusion” music, it asks how different voices can maintain their opacity in relation to each other, and how such a cacophony might allow new forms, voices, and hybrid languages to emerge. The Chaos Opera will be performed by Dyna Edyne, Michale Grafals, Celeste Landeros, Niuvis Martin, and Nad Pitt.

This compelling transnational exhibition of modern and contemporary art considers how crossing borders continues to shape our world.
The international group of thirty-eight artists and collectives in the exhibition investigates the ways borders form identities and negotiate imaginary spaces. The artists’ inquiries range across mediums and genres, and attempt to answer urgent questions that concern us all today.

Where the Oceans Meet stems from the pioneering literary, anthropological, and philosophical work of two Caribbean writers, the Cuban painter, scholar, and ethnologist Lydia CABRERA (1899–1991) and the Martinican philosopher, poet, and literary critic Édouard GLISSANT (1928–2011). Embodied by the works of art in the exhibition, their ideas explore how art can think and break through barriers of history, geography, and culture.

Where the Oceans Meet will offer a platform for questioning colonial and modern thought, and placing it into perspective. Its themes resonate in Miami, a city where oceans meet, so often imagined as a crossroads of the Americas and a space of transition par excellence.

The exhibition is curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Asad Raza, Gabriela Rangel, and Rina Carvajal.

Spoken Soul Festival is celebrating an equally simple and complicated concept: the word. SSF 12’s theme, #WordIsBond, explores how in the digital age words have no boundaries and comments on how because of this, words are more powerful than ever before in our history. The open admission showcase will experience the rich cultural diaspora that they have come to expect from the SSF’s signature event: women dancers, poets, visual artists, vocalists, and a female DJ, all representing different cultures and unique voices. This year’s theme, #WordIsBond, will take center stage, weaving in, out and in between dancers’ limbs, peeking out from visual works, and swirling through the air in sync with live musical notes.

Yué is the name of all the women who ever invest and occupy with their body a piece of public space: in this case, PAMM’s waterfront. Myriam Soulanges and Anne Meyer found the bodies and gestures of Yué thanks to stories of women they met during residencies in French Guiana and Guadeloupe. Those stories are now shared with other women from the Caribbean and from Miami. Myriam Soulanges and Anne Meyer show a work of feminine/artistic engagement in a tormented context of social movements and climate change. Hurricanes Irma and Maria have also influenced Yué#sorority, and later on visual artist Guy Gabon joined the project. Forced migrations increase women’s vulnerability and exacerbates inequalities. They need our attention today. The choreographic thread of Yué#Sorority is reconstructed in Miami with volunteer performers who have been meeting up for two weeks in Little Haiti Cultural Center in Little Haiti and the Koubek Center in Little Havana during dance and sewing workshops with the artists.

Following the screening, join the filmmaker and producer for a conversation moderated by Sweat Records’ Lolo Reskin and a Q&A with the audience.

In “Kate Nash: Underestimate the Girl,” a platinum-selling pop dissident turns her back on the music business and learns how to survive as a punk renegade, TV wrestling queen, and DIY leader of an all-girl band. This high-energy, female-centered rock odyssey reveals the treacherous line that today’s artists must walk to survive while making art on their own terms in the modern digital economy.

Enjoy happy hour on the terrace with an all-vinyl DJ set by Lagrimas de Oro before the conversation and film.

An Age-Old Fairytale Awakens with New Perspective at World Premiere in South Florida During Miami Art Week; Then Travels to New York’s Upper West Side Beacon Theatre

The world premiere of Sleeping Beauty Dreams, a contemporary art exploration of the age-old fable brought to life by Magic Reality Group, will debut at the Adrienne Arsht Center during Miami Art Week. The EDM-influenced performance explores one of the most iconic stories ever told, Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty,” and will showcase the first-ever fusion of live contemporary ballet dance with 3D digital avatars projected on-stage in real-time. The Miami showings of this story never told before takes place at the Ziff Ballet Opera House at Adrienne Arsht Center. The performance then visits New York City the following weekend at the Beacon Theatre.

The legend of Sleeping Beauty has been retold by masters since the 14th century, but no one has explored what the princess was dreaming while she slept for 100 years. Global prima ballerina, Diana Vishneva, performing as Princess Aurora and Marcelo Gomes, as Prince Peter are brought together in a fusion of dance, music, art, and revolutionary 3D digital technology never seen on stage before. Artists joining Vishneva and Gomes include Tobias Gremmler and Bart Hess, with music by famed EDM pioneers, NOISIA, a Dutch trio whose music is featured on Hollywood blockbusters and works with some of the world’s biggest artists including Skrillex and deadmau5.

Sleeping Beauty Dreams is an unprecedented fusion of contemporary dance with state-of-the-art, real-time avatar-mapping projection technology and electronic music for a multi-dimensional scenic experience. This emerging technology allows the constantly transforming avatars of Sleeping Beauty Dreams to seamlessly replicate the dancers’ movements live, adding a whole new dimension to the world of live performance.

Discover an interpretation of what happened during the princess’ 100-year slumber in Miami at the Adrienne Arsht Center on December 7th and 8th at 8 p.m., tickets are available here. Likewise, the performance comes to New York at the Beacon Theatre on December 14th and 15th at 8 p.m. and tickets are available here.
