R&J [romeo and juliet], presented by Grace Arts Center, has announced their schedule of performances spanning Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. The cast is also proud to have been selected from dozens of entries as a sponsored event during O, Miami Poetry Festival.
Vickery explains that guests can expect, “the blending of two dance styles, classic Shakespeare and spoken word, graffiti arts by GPK studios, the best of current and retro melodies in a DJ produced soundtrack, with a little bit of South Florida history punctuating the adaptation of this classic love story. The surprise ending is meant to encourage dialog with the audience about the art forms used and pushing boundaries in the arts while mastering the foundations.”

Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre, together with presenting sponsor, The Children’s Trust, announces the fifth annual launch of Young Talent Big Dreams, the most widespread local FREE youth talent contest in Miami-Dade. Kids between the ages of 8-17 will compete for prizes ranging from performing arts scholarships to cash awards and performance opportunities, to tickets to local attractions and theatres. This year, courtesy of WSVN CH7, the Grand Prize winner will receive a free trip – airfare, hotel and free passes for two – to attend the live American Idol finale. The countywide competition will begin on Feb. 8th, with preliminary auditions that will take place through April 12th at four local theatres. The competition will feature a total of six individual categories including; pop/rock/rap vocals, musical theatre/jazz standards/classical vocals, dance, musical instrument, original spoken word and original vocal and/or instrumental composition, and categories of six or less members including; dance, musical instrumental and band/vocal group. Participation is free of charge and limited to residents of Miami-Dade County.

The countywide competition concludes with semifinals on April 25th and 26th and finals on May 2nd at the Miracle Theatre. Seven preliminary auditions will take place in diverse locations throughout Miami-Dade, including the Miracle Theatre, John A. Ferguson Senior High School, South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center and the Joseph Caleb Center. Participants may compete in one individual and one group category only, and those who pre-register will be given priority audition times. Performers may pre-register online and will be seen before non-registered performers. Participation in Young Talent Big Dreams requires parental consent. Each act will be allotted up to one minute during their preliminary audition performance and two minutes for the semifinal and final round performance. Southland Mall welcomes the month of September with a celebration of Hispanic Heritage and an appreciation for cultural experiences. Every Friday evening, shoppers will have the opportunity to enjoy entertainment-based activities and special performances alongside their family and friends. The “Festive Friday” stage is located inside the mall’s Center Court and each event runs from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

• September 5th – Join the talented dancers from Huney Shine Dance Studio as they present a special performance of their newest jazz and hip hop routines.
• September 12th – Mariachi Voces de America will serenade shoppers with a live 50 minute performance of traditional Mexican music. There will be trumpets, guitars and live singing! Guests will be able to request their favorite songs throughout the evening.
• September 19th – South Florida realist artist and founder of MiamiArtBlog.com, Cecilia Paz, will host an exclusive “Still Life” Sketching Workshop where guests will learn how to use charcoal to sketch their own portraits.
