10 Days of Connection is a community-led initiative to promote kindness and inclusion in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. From May 1-10, participants are invited to attend connection experiences hosted by more than 100 local organizations, and are challenged to step outside of their comfort zone to forge new connections across lines of difference.

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run presented by Turkish Airlines, a three-circuit 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk, will once again wind its way through the streets of West Palm Beach. Known as “Florida’s Largest Office Party”, the run is open to employees of businesses, corporations, government agencies, financial institutions and non-profits – regardless of company size – and incorporates a special competition to award the overall men’s, women’s and co-ed teams in 20 different industries. The Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase presented by Cleveland Clinic Florida is a free one-day event that brings together academically qualified Florida high school seniors and educational institutions in Division II, Division III and NAIA programs from across the country.

The event gives student-athletes the unprecedented opportunity to use their athletic and academic skills to earn collegiate scholarships, and ultimately, a college degree.

Parkinson’s Foundation South Palm Beach County Chapter will host its Annual Leo Geller Golf Tournament Honoring Florida Peninsula Insurance Company at Boca Rio Gulf Club on Monday, February 4. The fun-filled day will benefit the Parkinson’s Foundation’s ongoing programs that help those in the local community living with Parkinson’s Disease.

The Miami Trail Festival is coming on September 22, 2018 to Virginia Key.

MIAMI, FL – Runners, mountain bikers, paddlers, and yogis are invited to join us at Virginia Key for the premier Miami Trail Festival, on Saturday morning September 22nd. The running and mountain bike courses will take participants through the beautiful trails of Virginia Key with views of Downtown and Miami Beach like no other. The paddleboard course and yoga area will be on the beautiful sandy beaches where participants can truly disconnect from the mainland.

The trail run will have two distances: 5 miles and 10 miles. The mountain bike race will have multiple categories with longer distances for the more experienced riders and shorter distances for novices and juniors with help from the Virginia Key Bicycle Club. The paddleboard race will have two distances: 1.5 miles and 3 miles. Two yoga classes will be hosted and taught by Om Movement: Vinyasa Power Yoga, and Hatha Stretching Yoga. Awards will be given to the all the age group and division winners in the trail run, mountain bike race, and paddleboard race.

All participants will receive a custom BIB number, beautiful finisher’s medal, closed race course through Virginia Key North Point Trails, and access to a day full of festival activities. Festival activities will include great spectator’s views of the races, music and entertainment, great product samples, unlimited sunshine, and much more. This will be a chip timed event. Timing chips will be attached to the back of participant’s BIB number or on the participant’s ankle.

Go fish and enjoy Florida’s favorite open water pastime this summer while helping our nation’s heroes! Deliver the Dream, a South Florida-based nonprofit organization that organizes retreats for families experiencing a serious illness or crisis, will host its 8th Annual Fishing for the Dream Tournament at Lighthouse Point Yacht Club (2701 NE 42nd Street in Lighthouse Point) on June 29 and 30 to benefit a Family Retreat for Post 9/11 Combat Veterans. Registration is open through June 28 and more than $10,000 in prizes will be up for grabs.

The festivities begin with a Captain’s Cocktail Party and Silent Auction on Friday, June 29, at 6 p.m. at Lighthouse Point Yacht Club, a premier yacht club and multimillion dollar marina with 70+ slips that can accommodate yachts up to 120 feet. Fishing begins the next day, June 30, at 7 a.m., followed by a Family BBQ, Silent Auction closeout, and a fun-filled Awards Ceremony. The top boat will net $5,000 and prizes will be awarded for Top Lady Angler and Top Junior Angler.

To date, Fishing for the Dream has raised more than $250,000 to provide retreats for families dealing with critical illness and bereavement. This year, Deliver the Dream’s Post 9/11 Combat Veterans Retreat will host as many 15 families (at no cost to the participants) to help them enhance coping skills, reduce stress and cultivate relationships with other families who have a member suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or injuries. The retreat will also incorporate an educational component and offer therapeutic discussions. This retreat, along with nine other planned yearly retreats spanning various crises and medical conditions including autism, cancer, Down syndrome and epilepsy, combines traditional recreational activities with therapeutic activities, peer-to-peer discussion groups and expressive arts and music activities.

The 8th Annual Fishing for the Dream Tournament is presented by Lighthouse Point Yacht Club with support from Stiles, Salt Water Sportsman, Water’s Edge Marine Inspections & Construction, The Chappell Group Inc., City National Bank, Bluegreen Vacations, S&P Global, Scribe America, CarMax Cares, BoteBoard and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

Registration starts at $250 and is open through June 28; two tickets to the Captain’s Party and four tickets to the Awards Family BBQ are included with each registration. Discounts are also available for early registration.

Gulfstream Park will celebrate Thoroughbred Aftercare on Saturday, March 24 when it plays host to Florida TRAC Day, featuring retired horses, meet-and-greets with jockeys, dachshund races and an on-line auction.

Florida Thoroughbred Retirement and Adoptive Care (TRAC) was created in 2009 to find “forever” homes for retired Thoroughbreds. The inaugural Florida TRAC Day will begin at 8 a.m. with Breakfast at Gulfstream and continue during live racing beginning at noon.

During Breakfast at Gulfstream fans can meet Skip Away (G3), Fred Hooper (G3), Monmouth Cup (G2) and Iselin (G3) winner Valid, who earned $1 million before being sold for $15,000 at the Keeneland January Sale in 2017. Juarez, who won his first graded stakes aboard Valid, adopted the gelding when his return to the races was unsuccessful in Nebraska. Juarez will also attend Breakfast at Gulfstream.

Throughout the day Gulfstream will share stories of retired Thoroughbreds in new careers, including two recently-adopted from Florida TRAC by two-time bronze medal winning U.S. Pan American Team rider Todd Minikus.

Florida TRAC Day will also include Dachshund races beginning at 11 a.m., and a Florida TRAC booth where those donating will receive a free t-shirt and magnet.

Join us for the annual Bike 305 ride on the future Underline! This year, the 10-mile ride will begin at Dadeland North Metrorail Station and ends at the River Day Festival at Lummus Park on the Miami River Greenway. The annual River Day Festival will have dozens of offerings from food to historical tours on the banks of the river. The return bike trip is not escorted, but, you can always opt to take your bike back on the Metrorail!

Meet up at Dadeland North Metrorail station at 11AM to check in. We will depart promptly at 11:30AM and continue towards Lummus Park. Helmets, bike in good working order, a signed ride waiver and FUN are required. No headsets or earphones please.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run presented by Turkish Airlines, a three circuit 5K (3.1 mile) Run Walk, will once again wind its way through the streets of West Palm Beach. We are gearing up for an exciting 2018 Paddle Championship presented by Windhaven Insurance featuring three races built for all levels of paddling experience. The Long Race is a challenging 8.13 mile course rounding historic Virginia Key. The Short Race is a 3 mile loop in protected waters inside Marine Stadium Basin on Virginia Key. The Novice Race welcomes all first time and novice paddlers for a fun 1 mile race on calm water with a paddle board clinic available pre-race to master your skills.

Pedals up! Join First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale for the sixth annual Habitat for Humanity Bike to Build event. The bike route begins at the church and heads east down Las Olas Boulevard. The 25-mile ride continues north on A1A, turning around at the Hillsboro Inlet. The 50-mile ride continues north, turning around at Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach. There will be a delicious post-ride brunch for all participants from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

The Run for the Pink is a unique opportunity for participants to be part of the excitement and energy that will surround the annual Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon and Half Marathon, while also promoting positive awareness, education and early detection of breast cancer. Miami’s Vice City Rollers are proud to continue the Fresh Meat Class: Roller Derby 101. This 8 week course is intended to teach the skills required to be a successful derby skater. Skaters will be tested to evaluate those skills learned during the course. After completing RD101, skater will move on to RD102, another 6-week course. Upon passing both courses the skater will become a member of the league and will receive an MVCR shirt with their name on it.

Dates: Orientation will be on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018 from 6-9 p.m.

Enrollment Cost and Practice Dates/Times: Enrollment in the Fresh Meat Class: RD101 costs $75 for the 8-week course. Each registered skater will be able to attend practices twice a week (Sundays and Mondays from 7-9 pm) during RD101.

You will receive a packet containing:

1. Explanation of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) basic skills
2. Off-skates workout plan
3. Information on buying derby gear and skates
4. WFTDA rule book
5. What is expected as a member of MVCR
6. MVCR merchandise item

Requirements:

1. 18 or older
2. Gear: quad skates, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, mouth guard & helmet (MVCR has some skates, pads and helmets available to borrow on a first come, first serve basis).
3. Willingness to learn
4. Personal medical insurance strongly recommended

At age 15, she represented the USA at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain in the sport of rhythmic gymnastics. After being a three time USA National Champion and competing in World Class international events, she moved on to dancing professionally in NYC & Los Angeles.
Tamara’s versatility as a dancer, gymnast, rhythmic gymnast, aerial artist and contortionist led her to having an over 20 year career as a working professional dancer. She danced on three world tours with Madonna (Drowned World, Reinvention, Confessions), and alongside other countless popular artists. Her off-Broadway NYC debut was in hit aerial shows “De La Guarda”, and later became part of the original cast of “Fuerzabruta”.
Mrs. Levinson is currently working as a choreographer & movement therapist. Tamara has been teaching all styles of movement for over 20 years and continues to consistently create works of her own in all mediums of movement art.

The only thing you can’t escape or hide from, therefore the greatest tool you own that to be able to search other dimensions of self and release blocks the body stores. Miami’s Vice City Rollers has just the class for you. Join us Sunday, September 10th for the last Fresh Meat Class: Roller Derby 101 of the 2017 season! Orientation will be on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 6 – 9PM. This 6-week course is intended to teach the skills required to be a successful derby skater!

Monster Jam competitors are trained at Monster Jam University in mastering the skills needed to compete in the series. Approximately 12 feet high and about 12 feet wide, Monster Jam trucks are custom-designed machines that sit atop 66-inch-tall tires and weigh a minimum of 10,000 pounds. Built for short, high-powered bursts of speed, Monster Jam trucks generate 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower and are capable of speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Monster Jam trucks can fly up to 125 to 130 feet in distance and up to 35 feet in the air.

Join us this Sunday, June 4 for the next Fresh Meat Class: Roller Derby 101.

This 6 week course is intended to teach the skills required to be a successful derby skater.

Dates: Orientation will be on Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 6-9 p.m.

Enrollment Cost and Practice Dates/Times: Enrollment in the Fresh Meat Class: RD101 costs $75 for the 6-week course. Each registered skater will be able to attend practices twice a week (Wednesday and Sunday from 6:30-9 pm) during RD101.

You will receive a packet containing:

1. Explanation of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) basic skills
2. Off-skates workout plan
3. Information on buying derby gear and skates
4. WFTDA rule book
5. What is expected as a member of MVCR
6. MVCR merchandise item

Requirements:

1. 18 or older
2. Gear: quad skates, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, mouth guard & helmet (MVCR has some skates, pads and helmets available to borrow on a first come, first serve basis).
3. Willingness to learn
4. Personal medical insurance strongly recommended

Join a Citi Bike tour to visit various Miami Beach restricted dune areas near 1 Hotel South Beach. Bikers will get in-depth information from a Surfrider panelist on the effects of dune erosion and the importance of restoration, along with a plant for riders to plant at their stop. Heralded as the ‘Formula 1 of show jumping,’ the Longines Global Champions Tour is the world’s premier show jumping series and is a unique, world-class Championship and a phenomenon within the sport featuring Olympic, World and National Champions. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run, a three circuit 5K (3.1 mile) Run Walk, will once again wind its way through the streets of Downtown Fort Lauderdale. Known as â€œFloridaâ€™s Largest Office Partyâ€, the run is open to employees of businesses, corporations, government agencies, financial institutions and non-profits â€“ regardless of company size â€“ and incorporates a special competition to award the overall menâ€™s, womenâ€™s and co-ed teams in 20 different industries. Beginners can â€œease into exerciseâ€ with friends, gain inspiration and motivation to continue walking and running to improve overall health, while competitive runners have the opportunity to shine amongst their co-workers and lead the corporate team to victory.

As part of the tri-county race circuit, a portion of the proceeds from the Fort Lauderdale run will benefit United Way.
