Shops at Merrick Park, Coral Gables’ pristine destination for fine shopping and dining, will host National Night Out in partnership with Coral Gables Police and Fire on Tuesday, August 7 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. This free community event will provide the opportunity for Coral Gables residents and business owners to get better acquainted with their local police and fire departments.

The Coral Gables community will meet, engage and interact with local police officers and fire department officials, learn crime prevention tips, promote neighborhood unity and foster community. The public will also get up close with various service vehicles.

In 1984, the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) launched an ambitious project. The leaders of the nonprofit crime prevention organization called on neighborhood watch associations, law enforcement agencies and other groups to help organize National Night Out. The City of Coral Gables joins this event to send a symbolic message to criminals that the public and the police are united and unintimidated.

This summer, celebrate Kids Week at Southland Mall, a week of free entertainment, educational fun and interactive games that draws thousands of children and their families to the mall each year. The festivities kick off on Monday, July 23rd at Center Court with an interactive program of arts and crafts hosted by the Miami Children’s Museum from 12–4 p.m. Also on Monday, the Miami HEAT will be giving away tickets to their pre-season games in October.

Other activities and programs throughout the week include painting workshops, music, games and prize giveaways from the Miami Marlins Street Team, a theatre show, a children’s magic show and a line dancing event hosted by the Southside Stampede on July 27th at 6 p.m. Kids Week comes to an end on July 28th with the grand finale featuring ZOO Miami, a talent show presented by Superstar Productions and a children’s fashion show by Macy’s all from 1 -3 p.m.

“Southland Mall is excited to continue the Kids Week tradition with our community every summer,” said Maggie Anzardo, marketing director at Southland Mall. “It’s a great event for families as well as the perfect opportunity for parents to get school shopping started before the summer ends.”

Rounding out the summer fun is the ‘Summer Movie Express’ from Regal Cinemas, featuring select $1 movies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through August 15th, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Will Rogers Institute.

MegaRumba to Support Those in Need of Food and Medicine in Venezuela

SWARM and iHeart’s TU 94.9 have once again partnered to bring MegaRumba to Wynwood. This year, they will be raising funds in support of the Cuatro Por Venezuela Foundation, which has been fighting hunger, illness, and poverty in Venezuela since 2016. Taking place on the 20th of July, this festival of independence for all Hispanic cultures welcomes everyone to join in this single collective celebration, being a source of mutual pride and unity, and allowing everyone to enjoy a variety of Latin music, flavors, dancing, arts and crafts.

For the first time ever in the U.S., Danny Ocean will perform “Me Rehuso” at MegaRumba. Also performing live is Sofia Reyes, winner of an MTV Millennial, Latin Grammy and iHeart Media Award, as well as Grammy and Latin Grammy nominated bilingual Latin band, Locos Por Juana. Venezuelan singer/actor Victor Drijo and Nicole Favre will also join iHeart radio’s ever-popular DJ’s on center stage. In addition, there will be food trucks, arts & craft vendors, and several fully stocked bars, offering everything from the best of Bud Light and mixed drinks to specialty flavored mojitos by Cruzan.

The festival will run from 7PM to 3AM and it will continue to be FREE to enjoy. With the purchase of a $10 donation ticket, people can help Venezuela, but also enjoy a free Bud Light and shot from the giant Aguardiente Ice Luge ($19 value). Cuatro Por Venezuela Foundation will receive 100% of that ticket, so they may continue to provide educational, medical, and nutritional aid to Venezuelans in need. “Venezuela is under a profound humanitarian crisis, and we want to do something about it. One of the great things about Miami is our ethnic unity and getting to witness the neighborly love as the melting pot of Latin cultures come together in times of need. We are eager to help in this time of desperation in Venezuela and are excited to contribute towards uniting others in helping as well,” says Tony Albelo, SWARM CEO. Louis Vuitton opens a special pop-up store at Miami Design District dedicated to the FIFA World CupTM Official Licensed Product Collection. The pop-up store will be open to the public from June 14th through July 15th and designed with the collection’s inspiration in mind.
The pop-up store features unique versions of Keepall and Apollo bags and a selection of small leather goods inspired by the legendary Official Match Ball of the 1970 FIFA World CupTM. Made with the House’s iconic Epi leather first introduced in the 1920s, the styles will be proposed in up to three colors combinations.
The hexagon design is created using a three-stage embossing procedure that is both innovative and based upon the House’s historic savoir-faire, allowing each colored hexagon to have a richly textured feel, reminiscent of classic footballs. For a more exclusive version, a “Made-To-Order” Keepall is proposed in a rich palette of 8 pentagon colors. Each of them can be associated with one of the 5 colors of trimmings to create a Keepall in the colors of almost any national flag. Completing this sophisticated offer, an Epi leather luggage tag could be embossed with one of 35 national flags, including the nations taking part in the competition.

The new pop up store will present a unique, limited-edition FIFA World CupTM Official Match Ball Collection Trunk that is set to become an instant collector’s item. Based on the House’s traditional wardrobe trunks, it opens to reveal a stunning collection of 14 footballs: 13 reeditions of the Official Match Balls used at FIFA World CupTM tournaments since 1970, all fabricated especially for this project by Adidas, and one Louis Vuitton designed football.

On June 30, Schnebly Redlands Winery will release the Lychee fruits of their labor in a most entertaining way during their Lychee Summer Celebration (LSC), partnering for the first time with the South Dade Chamber of Commerce and the American Cancer Society. The family friendly event has been a source of pride to the area, with South Florida being the only place in the Continental United States where the Lychee fruit is grown. The celebration will begin at 2pm, when the Farmer’s Market opens with 50 vendors and six food trucks. At the Grand Tiki Culinary Lounge, guests will expand their food knowledge and watch Cooking Demos on how to incorporate lychee, local and organic foods in the kitchen. A family Mud Run, an awards ceremony, and live music will round out the celebration only to culminate with a patriotic fireworks display.

“This year’s Lychee harvest is the largest crop we’ve seen in years, not only did the trees survive Hurricane Irma, but the crop was actually improved by the stress of Irma; it’s a testament to the strength of the South Florida community and its agricultural roots,” says Peter Schnebly, Founder of Schnebly Winery. During the Summer Celebration, the Winery will be offering three Lychee wines, and three limited special release Lychee beers from Miami Brewing Company. Several South Florida restaurants and food trucks will offer their culinary take on the Lychee fruit by way of creative recipes, such as Lychee Seafood Ceviche and Lychee Martini Ice Cream. The possibilities are endless, and Schnebly can’t wait to see their partners get creative with this year’s harvest at the Culinary Grand Tiki Lounge featuring StartUP FIU Food Mentors such as Half Moon Empanadas, Pro Kitchen Hub, My Ceviche, and Lulu’s Ice Cream, to name a few.

While guests enjoy the different variations of Lychee, they can also browse 200+ classic/modern Chevrolet Corvettes, custom cars, Jeeps, 4x4s and other classics throughout the day. The Lychee Summer Celebration Meet Up will be hosted by Corvettes & Coffee and Cecil’s Jeep Fam. Guests can also explore over 40+ artisan and craft vendors in the Artist Colony as they sculpt, sew and sand down hand-made goods. At 5pm, the first Schnebly Family Mud Run will kick off, benefitting the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research. Participating runners will be given a glow necklace to display the Cancer they’ll be running for, while conquering an “all new” course compete with obstacles. While the five-kilometer course will honor the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners during an official ceremony before the fireworks, every runner will receive a medal to commemorate their run. All proceeds from the run will go to the American Cancer Society, and anyone who buys a ticket for the run will get free admission to the Lychee Summer Celebration; family members get special pricing on LSC tickets with Runner Registration.

Shops at Merrick Park, Coral Gables’ pristine destination for fine shopping and dining, will host an open to the public “Jazz on the Green for the Holidays” winter concert. The center’s garden area will come alive with festive jazz and holiday tunes plus pop-up art displays, with the option of a VIP experience, at SAWA to enjoy it all. The evening will feature music by the Hal Roland Trio at the fountains in the main garden area. Throughout the event, attendees are welcome to lounge in the surrounding garden area while listening to their favorite Jazz and holiday tunes.

Ccucu’s iconic artists David Banegas, Juan Cabas, MJ POP, Nordis Rafael Velasquez, Radius Rock and William Pavolini’s will have their distinct works of art showcased throughout the property’s garden area.

Guests will have the option to enjoy an exclusive VIP experience, which will be available at SAWA for $40 per person. A percentage of VIP ticket sales will benefit the hurricane relief efforts undertaken by Neighbors 4 Neighbors, a nationally acclaimed nonprofit organization based in Miami, founded by CBS television in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Surfside, Miami’s uptown beachtown, is bringing a slice of the Caribbean to locals at the next First Fridays event to be held on Friday, June 2. During this family-friendly beach picnic, locals can kickoff the weekend with a visit to Surfside’s pristine beach for a number of fun activities. Enjoy a tepee village, an interactive drum circle, a Bahamian Junkanoo marching band and a fashion showcase from Miami-based boutique BASK and designer Sonia Trussardi Sepe. Locals also can nosh on fresh ceviche and quench their thirst with coconut water courtesy of Harmless Harvest – all while basking in ocean breezes and listening to Caribbean steel drum music.

Wynwood will see the streets come alive for the fourth annual Wynwood Life! It is held in Miami’s Art and Cultural District and is a true celebration of all things we love about South Florida – Food, Art, Music and Fashion! Twenty thousand people will fill the streets perusing art, crafts, jewelry and over 100 vendors all while being entertained by live art and music and noshing on local fare from over 40 food trucks!

WynwoodMap.com and The RAW Project will curate the Live Art Stage featuring a wide variety of street artists from around the World. The festival encourages students and emerging artists to take part in the “Emerging Artist Competition”. Wynwood Life is proud to have the Miami Art & Design Education Institute (M.A.D.E.) as the presenting sponsor, because M.A.D.E is known for elevating people’s art and design career to the next level by way of their industry-driven approach to education, through coaching, mentoring, and networking in the heart of Miami’s Art District. In addition, WYN 317 Gallery will be the gallery partner as well as being on the selection committee.

The Wynwood Culinary Showcase will feature top restaurants and chefs from the area providing teachable moments such as Chef Cesar Zapata from Phuc yea, who will teach us how to cook a whole fish. This year, the stage will also invite South Florida chefs outside of Wynwood who are taking the culinary scene to a higher level. Scheduled to make demos are Max Santiago, Bunnie Cakes, Crave Clean, Copper 29, and more. Few things make as much sense as Miami hosting Swim Week. We’ve got beautiful beaches, fantastic weather, an exciting nightlife and, most importantly, incredibly talented people. Our favorite part of locally-hosted international events like Swim Week is seeing the global spotlight shine on our local talent and watching them flourish. This year, we went into the bikini madness with a goal to observe and report on the accomplishments of Miami designers, products, venues, and people. Alas, here we are today sharing five of the week’s best 305-bred moments.

1. Liliana Montoya – Mermaids of Atlantis Runway Show at Funkshion Fashion Week
Liliana Montoya is a Miami Beach-based brand that has captivated aspiring mermaids in the US and beyond. For the brand’s third Miami Swim Week, Liliana stunned the crowd with sexy wrap-around pieces and a killer summer soundtrack that included our “it” summer song: East & Young Remix of Runaway (U&I) by Galantis. The night was made all the sweeter because it was a collaborative effort of multiple Miami girl bosses, including Valérie Engel of South of Fifth’s Roses and Dreams Boutique which carries her brand. If you missed our previous feature on Valérie, check it out here for some serious life inspo then stop by her store to pick up Liliana Montoya’s sultry swim designs.

2. Style Saves Swim at the Miami Beach EDITION and the SLS Hotel
Miami non-profit Style Saves, which fundraises to donate underprivileged kids with clothing, shoes and accessories, was the talk of the town with their 5th Annual Fashion Show Fundraiser at the Miami Beach EDITION. The runway show featured beach must-haves by coveted brands (Kai Lani, Regine Chevallier, and Goêt) and swoon-worthy moments thanks to the world’s cutest puppies. Then, on Sunday, Style Saves hopped over to the SLS Hotel where they hosted pop-ups of local brands and boutiques (iSHINE365, Style Mafia, MVM Boutique) for a “So Miami” shopping experience in the name of charity. Thanks to Style Saves, the weekend was a fruitful one for our small businesses and for the less fortunate children in our community. P.S. 3. Babalú at Hammock Show
Babalú, local luxury boutique and the brainchild of perfume fanatics Greg Melvin and Paolo Ambu, was also present at Miami Swim Week. We stumbled upon their elegant display outside the W Hotel’s trés chic ballroom and, as soon as we spotted their unmistakeable pink logo, we were super psyched to see what they had in store. You may remember from our feature on their Perfume Genie that the team from Babalú has a flare for the exciting and the exotic and, at Hammock Show, they didn’t disappoint. They used the trade show to debut their new line of artisanal candies which are fittingly inspired by notes from fine fragrances like those sold at their Lincoln Road outpost. The layer of notes in the candies, such as the honey, ginger and oriental spice in the “Spicy” line, make them a unique gift for anyone with a sweet tooth.

4. Escape Miami Style Lounge at Shelborne Wyndham Grand
Escape Miami Lounge, an annual swim-themed ode to Miami by Annie Vazquez (A/K/A The Fashion Poet) and Katya Bravo, returned for its third year bigger and better than ever. The event took over the Shelborne‘s pool and cabanas with pop-ups from well-known brands like Italia Independent (which will be opening their first store in Miami soon) and newly-launched ones like Flair Miami blog’s new line of Miami-inspired t-shirts. We were all about the fruity summer cocktails, the burst of cooling kryogenifex mist, and The Biscayne Poet‘s sweet prose. This really is one of Miami’s best summer parties time and time again.

5. Akai, Alexibella and Siempre Golden Brunch at Seagrape
We ended our Miami quest with brunch (because Miami, bro) at Seagrape where we scarfed down three chocolate croissants in the presence of the two designers of Akai Swimwear and their other media guests. In addition to overloading on carbs, we had the chance to chat with Daniela Longo and Chabeli De Sousa about the story behind their brand, the inspiration for their second collection, and their time at the University of Miami (Go ‘Canes!). We also perused their lookbook and those of Alexibella and Siempre Golden before leaving with a super chic and cheeky Siempre Golden bikini that you’ll get the chance to peep in a future post. Until then, you can find your summer swim in Akai, Alexibella, and Siempre Golden. Trust.

Florida Foster Care Review promotes the safety, well-being and long-term success of abused and neglected children through volunteer-driven case reviews and system level advocacy. Florida Foster Care Review envisions a child welfare system that protects, heals and supports success for children, youth and young adults and their families.

To achieve its mission, Florida Foster Care Review (FFCR) recruits, trains and supervises volunteers who participate in monthly Citizen Review Panels that review cases of youth in foster care to ensure they are safe and receiving needed services. The panels submit recommendations to the Juvenile Dependency Court, which then become binding judicial orders. Together with child welfare professionals, FFCR also works to ensure that children and youth leaving the foster care system have someone they can call family. Through all its programs, FFCR not only promotes positive results at the individual level, but also tracks and analyzes outcomes in order to advocate for system changes that improve children’s lives.

The PhanArt Poster and Pin Exhibition: Miami, featuring a wide variety of artists who draw inspiration from the music of Phish, will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, 1300 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33132. This one of a kind art show, created and produced by Pete Mason, will be held on the third day of Phish’s four night stand at Miami’s American Airlines Arena, only a 5 block walk from the Arsht Center.

The lineup announced for the PhanArt Poster and Pin Exhibition: Miami represents a wide array of artists from among the Phish art community. Longtime Phish artists Ryan Kerrigan, TRiPP, Isadora Bullock, Michael Boyer, StuPINdous Creations, Pompeii Prints and Fred Sutter are regular exhibitors at PhanArt shows and fans can expect to find a large portfolio from each artist of current and past art.

Pin makers and designers MYFE. Designs, Party Time Pins, Noah Phence, Pin me Down, Cactusbomb, Pinsanity Designs, and Ant Pharms Pins will feature their ever-popular pin series and designs, as well as other items made specifically for the Miami shows.

First time exhibitors to the PhanArt Poster and Pin Exhibition include Sweet Melis, Otto Art, Brooke Appelman, Brian Bojo’s Phifty-Two Weeks, Golden Road Gallery, Jampanties, Ebbleberry Designs, Super Rad Cape Co, Highly Concerned Enterprises, Brendan Nicolan and The Shakedown Shop. A musical performance from San Francisco-based pianist Holly Bowling will take place throughout the art show, with performances on the hour from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The sets will feature Phish songs arranged for solo piano and several “jam transcriptions”, including a complete rendition of the ‘Tahoe Tweezer’ during the final hour, beginning at 4 pm. Non-profits benefitting from the PhanArt show include The Mockingbird Foundation, which has awarded grants for music education totaling more than $800,000 over the past 15 years. PhanArt has raised, through a book and website created to showcase the art made by Phish fans, over $18,000 for The Mockingbird Foundation since 2009.

Phish Art shows have been held since 2003 with great success. Unique posters, pins, shirts, stickers and much more are made for Phish shows, making the PhanArt Poster and Pin Exhibition: Miami, a must-attend event during Phish tour. Produced by Pete Mason, founder of PhanArt and author of PhanArt: The Art of the Fans of Phish, these PhanArt exhibitions have been held in Atlantic City, Chicago and Las Vegas over the past 14 months and represent a continued effort to promote and exhibit original and unique concert art from a wide variety of artists. The eclectic artists featured at this event show the broad scope of Phish related art and capture the inspiration of the band in their art.
