In South Florida, there’s only one holiday feeling better than the festive Winterfest Boat Parade and that’s knowing your watch party seat will benefit Children’s Harbor, a nationally accredited non-profit agency with a mission to help strengthen families who are struggling in the community, while providing safe shelter and support to teens in foster care so that they may grow into healthy, educated and productive adults.

On Saturday, December 16, Children’s Harbor will host its annual Winterfest Boat Parade watch party with a front-row seat to the Parade route along the Intracoastal from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The Grateful Palate and Shooters, 3003 NE. 32nd Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.

Tickets to the Children’s Harbor Winterfest Viewing Party are $250.

This year, Children’s Harbor has expanded seating to an outdoor area. Indoor and outdoor seating provides a front row seat to the parade route along the Intracoastal Waterway.

“We are excited to be adding space to accommodate even more guests as this is one of the most popular Winterfest Boat Parade events,” Children’s Harbor CEO Tiffani Dhooge said. “The funds raised benefit at-risk children and families in our community.”

Guests will enjoy an elegant dinner, open bar, raffle and reserved seating for the parade. Sponsorships are now available. For more information, email events@childrensharbor.org.

“It’s a great way for sponsors to host a memorable VIP evening for their clients, employees or friends, while meeting their philanthropic goals and benefiting one of their favorite charities” Dhooge added.

About Children’s Harbor

Established in 1996, Children’s Harbor is a nationally accredited non-profit agency with a mission to help strengthen families who are struggling in our community, while providing safe shelter and support to teens in foster care so that they may grow into healthy, educated and productive adults.

With the belief that children should feel safe, that family is worth fighting for and that cycles can be broken, Children’s Harbor provides a harbor of hope and healing for children who have been impacted by the trauma of child abuse. The main campus in Pembroke Pines provides a supportive family environment for teenagers in foster care and their younger siblings. The family strengthening program prevents kids from coming into foster care by providing in-home counseling and support to families who are struggling in the community. Those who have aged out of foster care are provided with housing, life skills and the wrap-around support necessary to overcome their trauma and navigate through the early stages of adulthood through independent living programs.

Brown’s Harbor is a supportive housing community that offers on-site staff, training, and wrap-around support services for young adults who have aged out of the foster care system, ages 18-23, helping to bridge the gap from dependence to independence.

Prepare to be petrified as South Florida’s biggest haunted experience, the House of Horror Haunted Carnival returns for its 21st frightful installment. The Master of the Carnival, Mr. Lockhart, has awakened his cursed spirits from the dead – dripping with blood, brimming with malice, and hungry to feast on terrorized souls – all while Miami International Mall undergoes a haunting transformation into a cryptic labyrinth of inescapable dread, spanning from September 28 to October 31. Exercise caution, for once you enter the gates of doom, there is no exit out of this twisted spectacle, unless you successfully navigate an unsettling journey through time and terror.

This entails conquering the carnival’s four brand-new haunted attractions, each meticulously designed to instill fear, fun, and excitement for all ages. Dare to step into history’s darkest corners as you navigate the haunting halls of the Mayhem Museum, where lost souls find their eternal resting place. Experience a spine-chilling Deja Vu at Haunted HoliDAZE, where celebrations of the past entangle visitors on repeat. Venture into the abyss with Theater of Terror tickets; it’s not your average movie theater, but one where you’ll be tasked with escaping the sinister secrets of past cinematic treasures. Making a triumphant return, Scare X Studios presents a new character, Dolly, ready to lead guests into an immersive and Instagram-worthy trip down memory lane but beware—Dolly is far from trustworthy.

If you’re more of a thrill-seeker, the House of Horror midway is an absolute must-visit with over twenty exhilarating rides, including the Scarecoaster, South Florida’s only Halloween-themed rollercoaster. Enjoy carnival games, indulge in delectable treats, and savor a tempting variety of food and beverages, all while building anticipation for the adventures that await. Elevate your House of Horror experience with the Only In Dade Experience – an offering like no other, with behind-the-scenes access to the haunted attractions, entry to an air-conditioned lounge, photo opportunities, unexpected scares, music, beverages, and meet and greets with the signature Only In Dade cast.

Throughout October, House of Horror will present a series that promises to captivate your senses, beginning with a grand Opening Night spectacle on September 28. Brace yourself for a chilling experience as the gates of doom will creak open, revealing the Master of the Carnival, Mr. Lockhart, accompanied by an entourage of spooky characters. Among them, you’ll encounter a ceremony of stilt walkers, dancers, the band of the dead, and other dreadful surprises.

Mark your calendar for Friday the 13, when a deeper, more ominous layer of terror will be unveiled. On Sunday, October 29, our Spook-A-Palooza awaits the eager children, offering a character parade, an enchanting dance performance, and a daring trick-or-treat expedition that could lead to delightfully eerie encounters.

As the clock strikes 7 pm on October 31, an eerie spell of music will rise with a parade of horror, featuring performers shrouded in darkness, scare actors channeling your deepest fears, and stilt walkers towering over prepared to wrap you in their grasp. The Haunted Night of Horror will be a night to remember…if you’re still alive to tell the tale. A calendar of special events will be available and periodically updated at houseofhorrorcarnival.com.

Tickets, ranging from $20 to $50, offer varying levels of access depending on the night and can be purchased at https://houseofhorrorcarnival.com/. Stay tuned for special ticket offers and updates by following House of Horror Haunted Carnival on Instagram and Facebook.

House of Horror Haunted Carnival welcomes guests every night except Mondays.

South Florida Organizations Partner in Unity
New Alliance Invites Public to Join the Movement

With an eye toward inspiring unity and cooperation across the public, MCCJ met with South Florida community leaders and organizations to form an alliance that will embody the belief that we’re better off united, regardless of race, color, religion, origin, and political affiliation. Yearning for the days when people had constructive conversations despite having differences and determined to bring those days back to vibrant life, this newly formed alliance has planned a march for May 15, 2022, at 3PM in Downtown Miami, and it is inviting the community to join in their efforts.

The main thrust of “We Are United” is to show that we are proud of and united in our differences and what makes us unique; that we wish to operate with compassion, care towards one another, and remain supportive of each other with respect and in celebration of these differences. It aims to tackle hate and divisiveness, by clearly demonstrating that people are better off united. Organizers plan to make this march an annual event. Over ten entities, including the Office of Mayor Danielle Levine Cava are encouraging additional organizations to join the alliance in hopes of repairing the currently frayed social fabric. “Sadly, we’re at the point where almost anything can turn into a topic of division, and it’s only getting worse,” states Matt Anderson, MCCJ executive director. “We profoundly believe every person has the right to live in dignity and enjoy respect, regardless of race, gender, faith, ethnicity, national origin, age, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability or socioeconomic status. For that reason, we aspire to make Miami a model of intercultural understanding.”

On May 15th, MCCJ and this newly formed alliance will assemble at The Freedom Tower at 3:00PM. The march will officially begin at 3:45PM. People are expected to make it The Underline (right near Brickell station) by 4:40PM. At that point, there will be a performance by Guitars Over Guns followed by speeches from key figures. The event ends at 6PM.

WHEN:
Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 3PM

WHERE:
Meet at Freedom Tower in Downtown Miami at 600 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL 33132. The march will end at The Underline at SW 1st Ave, Miami, FL 33130

REGISTRATION:
The event is free, but people are asked to register via Eventbrite at https://bit.ly/38EtmAV

Los Ranchos uniquely services all of its fresh hand cut steaks and signature sauces daily, and direct from its own specialized commissary, ensuring that all guests enjoy the same top quality and consistency.

J’ouvert (pronounced “Jou-vay”) is derived from French patois and means ‘daybreak’. Jouvert marks the official start of carnival celebrations. The first revelers hit the streets – jumping, dancing, shouting – abetted, it must be admitted, by the fine local rum, but fueled more by the exhilaration of the occasion. Most revelers usually join sections in which hundreds of people party together with the vibrant sounds of the so-called “engine room” which is comprised of a “core” set of instruments, including the brake iron (discarded car brake drums), shak-shak (shaker), scratcher (a metal guiro), toc-toc (claves), cowbell, and bottle and spoon, drum set, congas, and occasional other instruments as part of the engine room. The brake iron is played with a metal rod to produce a high-pitched sound.

Enter the Miami Rhythm Section in collaboration with the China Mas Group. We are one of a number of Caribbean Carnival Mas bands participating in the Miami-Broward 2013 Jouvert infusion into the cultural consciousness of the South Florida Caribbean Diaspora. Part and parcel of Jouvert is rhythm and steel–The miami Rhythm section represents the so called “engine room” referenced above.

The second disc includes “EOL Soulfrito” an homage to Fania Records through interpretations and remixes of classic Fania songs performed by the Elements Of Life in a 33-minute sound collage as well as six more bonus tracks. Louie elaborates, “At that time I started working on my new Elements Of Life album. Fania was already aware of my previous E.O.L. albums and when they got wind, they wanted to hear it. Once they heard it, they were very interested in signing it. I was in awe of the idea. Things really would go full cycle being on Fania Records.”

Now celebrating its 58th anniversary, BACARDI is excited to return as title sponsor, promising exciting racing and festivities for this rich sailing tradition. The BACARDI Columbus Day Regatta is arguably one of South Florida’s largest regatta drawing over 100 boats each year from as far as Palm Beach and Monroe Counties.

With Bacardi’s renewed marketing efforts in the world of sailing, The BACARDI Columbus Day Regatta is now a perfect fit with MIAMI SAILING WEEK featuring The BACARDI Cup and bringing together two oldest regattas in Miami. under the Bacardi name.

“We’re so pleased to have BACARDI helping support the Columbus Day Regatta. This is a true testament to the legacy of sailing in Miami,” says Mark Pincus, Regatta Chairman. “The continued partnership strengthens the regatta for years to come and helps support our efforts with Sailors for the Sea and junior sailing programs in South Florida.”

Last year over 100 boats registered and this year 150 are expected. The BACARDI Columbus Day Regatta is expecting a large increase in entries due to the new concerted efforts by local sailing clubs to promote sailing on Biscayne Bay. It is estimated that over 1,000 sailors will be participating in the regatta and spending time in Coconut Grove. Now a tradition, the Dockside BBQ and BACARDI Bar at Coral Reef Yacht Club has become the premier Saturday night sailing event… better than any party down at Elliot Key. As it has been since the first regatta in 1954, all land activities will take place at Coral Reef Yacht Club including Friday’s Skipper’s meeting, Saturday night’s Dockside BBQ and the Awards Party the following week, Saturday October 13.

The regatta is open to monohulls and multihulls in eleven different classes, ensuring there is a perfect class for everyone. Skippers can choose from the straightforward Gunkhole class, perfect for new entrants and cruising sailors, to the ARC and PHRF classes that zigzag their way across the bay.  All classes are scored on the PHRF  handicap system. Trophies will be awarded to the first three boats as well as numerous perpetual trophies. Skippers should refer to the Notice of Race (NOR) available at www.columbusdayregatta.net  for docking information, which must be made in advanced.

Ocean Drive between 10th and 14th Streets

Grand Marshal Chaz Bono!

Can you say “divas?” Miami Beach Gay Pride will be diva-licious this year when an extraordinary line-up of musical guests take to the stage during the Miami Beach Gay Pride Festival, which takes place immediately following the colorful parade. Scheduled performers include Kristine W, Wynter Gordon, Jessica Sutta from the Pussy Cat Dolls, JoJo, Frenchie Davis and Inaya Day. Miami Beach Gay Pride takes place Sunday, April 15, from noon to 7 p.m., along Ocean Drive, and is presented by Stolichnaya® Premium vodka.

“This year’s line-up of entertainers certainly has something for everyone,” said Babak Movahedi, president of the Pride Board of Directors. “From dance to pop and from Broadway to gospel, the Miami Beach Gay Pride Festival will be a musical sensation.”

With the release of her latest album, “Straight Up with a Twist,” international dance club icon Kristine W found news ways to share “The Power of Music” with her fans — through contemporary jazz. Her venture into this new jazz genre expands upon the incredible success she has enjoyed since the ‘90s in the dance world. She currently holds the world’s record for most consecutive #1 Billboard Club Hits with nine; Madonna and Janet Jackson each had seven in a row.

Following a successful career as an international singer/songwriter, working with such artists as Mary J. Blige, Estelle and Jennifer Lopez, Wynter Gordon released her debut album, “With the Music I Die,” last summer. The first single from the album, “Dirty Talk,” topped the U.S. Dance Chart and was certified three-time Platinum. Her second single off the album, “Til Death,” reached number three on the U.S. Dance Chart. In addition to her solo career, she has recorded songs with Flo Rida, Rhythm Masters, and Freemasons. In 2011, she was nominated for a NewNowNext “Brink of Fame Music Artist” Award and an International Dance Music “Best Break-through Solo Artist” Award.

Since bursting on the global pop scene with the Pussycat Dolls in 2003, Miami native Jessica Sutta has built a reputation as a fan favorite — the sexy glamour icon with a heart of gold. Her solo breakout, “Show Me,” exploded with shuffle-fueled energy, reaffirming Sutta as the soulful vocalist she’s always been. In addition to her career, she has also worked to support marriage equality, and counts her gay fans among her favorites.

For JoJo, the journey has always been filled with music. Her new album “Jumping Trains” explores the ever-shifting middle ground between strength and vulnerability while still maintaining a feel-good, uplifting vibe. She calls her music ‘pop with an anger-management problem,’ because of its edgy style. The singer, now 20, released her platinum, self-titled debut album at the age of 13, and its follow-up, the gold-certified “The High Road,” at age 15. Her hits include “Baby It’s You,” “Leave (Get Out),” and “Too Little Too Late.”

Frenchie Davis wowed audiences with her take on “I Kissed A Girl,” “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It),” “Like A Prayer” and “When Love Takes Over” on the NBC hit show, “The Voice.” And this was after “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell predicted she could win the hugely popular reality show competition. But before TV fame, Davis’ chart-topping musical history includes several Billboard Dance Chart toppers, including “Give Me Tonight” and DJ/re-mixer Tony Moran’s “You Are.” She is in the process of selecting material for a new album, with plans to include a mix of Broadway, classic hits, dance and original material.

Inaya Day’s music fuels dance floors worldwide. Her fan favorites include, “Horny,” “Hold Your Head Up High,” “Nasty Girl,” and “Keep Pushin’.” In addition to house music, Day records and performs gospel, musical theater, jazz, R&B and hip-hop, collaborating with such icons as Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Missy Elliot, Sean Puffy Combs, and Big Daddy Cane. She’s had numerous U.K., Aria, and Billboard top tens and recently collaborated with Quentin Harris on “Do The Right Thing” for his current album, “Sacrifice.”

All the Miami Beach Gay Pride headliners as well as a roster of international DJs – including Scotty Thomson — will perform on the Main Stage off Ocean Drive between 13th and 14th Streets in Lummus Park. Additional entertainment will feature Latin music on the Palace Stage at 12th and Ocean Court and local community acts on the Community Stage off 11th and Ocean Drive in Lummus Park.

Coming into its fourth year, Miami Beach Gay Pride has grown into the largest, single-day event of the entire year in Miami Beach. The hugely successful event in 2011 attracted more than 40,000 people from all walks of life, all parts of the country, and all age groups. Last year’s Miami Beach Gay Pride featured a parade with 66 entries and 1,200 participants. In addition to musical performances, the post-parade Festival features, 125 LGBT-friendly vendors and businesses, a food court, refreshments and a family-friendly play area.

The mission of Miami Beach Gay Pride is to bring together members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, their friends, allies, and supporters in celebration of the unique spirit and culture of the LGBT community by producing free, safe, quality mass-appeal events that are open to all, including the Parade, Festival and allied Miami Beach Pride sanctioned events. Last Art Walk I was really inspired … over and over my visits to Art Walk have proved that under any given circumstance it is gunna be RAW and REAL, ours and NOW… right here in our hometown Miami – during just my 1/2 hr. show on the Panther Cafe Stage during last months Art Walk hundreds of people passed in front; they inspired me too! Their dance moves and face paints, wacky costumes or not … made me realize what makes Art Walk so exciting is that it is just that – ART WALKING – everyone is part of “the Show” artists and viewers alike… Amoungst the 40+ people who showed up for my show, 24 people were total “virgins” to Art Walk and had never been or even heard about it – they were all blown away – There is so much amazing art to see!

So the idea for a “marcha”, a Carnival style procession leading through the streets, stoping at designated spots for a “closer view” to end at a final destination where everyone celebrates amidst art, listening to music, being a part of the vibe poped into my head.

There is tonza new graffitti ‘n fun awaiting us right here in our front yard – Wynwood Art Disrtict . . . Let’s Celebrate the life we have Carnival / Mardi Gras Miami Style!!! Why? Porque la vida ES un CARNAVAL … get all our friends together and have some fun!!!

The plan … we all meet at ICL Studio; Us, our fav. peeps, their coolest, n closest most colorful peeps. From there we mobilize down the “Avenida” in the heart of the Wynwood Arts District during Feb. Art Walk. . . drummers, tambourins, and music, feathers and beads, sparkles and boas, sunglasses and MIA Hats and body paint to channel our Miami Carnival vibe. . Gunna check out all the killer new street art, hit a few iconicle galleries climaxing with a Niki EM – POP UP CONCERT and then tonz of multi media deliciousness.

So …
– Get your Shades, hats, chains & feathers, paints and portable instruments and come on down!
– Meet at ICL Studio (2051 NW 2nd AVE) 7pm to start of the evening in Ivan’s Organic Future.
– Walk, talk, move n’ groove by street art, graffitti, art galleries, stopping at some of “The Avenida’s” most exciting venues.
– POP UP concert at 9pm at the Product 81 Gallery (2311 NW 2nd Ave.)
– Not over yet!
– Refuel at the food trucks
– Head to Panther Cafe … Beatz n’ Brew with the Awarehouse / Acoustronic Crew. . .
– Buggy on into a new day!

See you this Saturday on “The Avenida”!

The 30th King Mango Strut 12/31/11

The 30th King Mango Strut
Saturday, December 31 at 2pm
Coconut Grove
www.kingmangostrut.org
www.facebook.com/kingmangostrut
Mango Hotline at 305-401-1171.

WARNING: PARADE CONTAINS 99% NUTS!

Join King Mango and his merry band of MangoHeads in Occupying the Grove on Saturday, December 31st. At 2pm, be there in your finest hats and facinators to witness the ceremonial dropping of the banana and the official start of the satirical parade that has been a model of civic engagement and civil uprising throughout the years. With “winning” material “ripped from the headlines,” the Mangoheads will keep you laughing longer than Kim Kardashian’s marriage.

The Grand Marshal this year is Ron Magill. With over 30 years as a wildlife expert and Communications Director for Zoo Miami, there’s no better king of the jungle to lead the animal house of MangoHeads.

Our Strut Celebrity is Katy Sorenson, the never recalled/never indicted/never removed-by-the-governor, former commissioner of Never-Neverland (dba Miami-Dade County.) Katy has been much closer to King Mango than Facebook’s 4 degrees of separation. Strut co-founder, the late Bill Dobson, worked for Katy.

In this interactive parade, the spectators – the true occupiers of the Grove – are encouraged to bring tents, lawn chairs and cardboard signs. You can wake up thinking you are going to watch a parade and end up watching yourself in the evening news IN the parade.

So all you pepper spray enthusiasts get ready to laugh because as creative as we are, we can’t possibly make this stuff up. Watch this past year’s headlines come to life:
· Join Time Magazine’s Person of the Year protesting protestors protesting protestors!
· Herman Cain reveals his 9-9-9 Plan for “Women for Cain”!
· Go up to see the Wizard of Odds at Miami’s new destination casino!
· Watch out for Highway Patrol Trooper Watts!
· Wall Street Vampires tap Charlie Sheen’s Tiger Blood!
· Get slimed by giant African snails!
· Join Citizens Revolting Against Politicians (The C.R.A.P. Party)!
· Party with the Miami Beach Party Cops!
· Receive North Korean grief counseling!
· Sierra Club throws a baby shower to welcome the 7th billion person on earth!
· Watch Dr. Buttock fix-a-flat butt!
· Anthropology Majors for Rick Scott!
· Watch the new reality show: The Real Housewives of Bin Laden!

And if that wasn’t enough to make you plank, there will also be special appearances by The Gay Penguins, Gaddafi, Anthony Weiner, Donald Trump, Tim Tebow and Strut favorite, Lindsay Lohan!

Expect to see the usual Strut suspects: The Hare Krishnas, the Marching Freds, Running of the Bull Sh*tters, Coconut Grove Juggling Exchange, Progressive Marching Funeral Band, Little Mr. & Miss. Mangoes, former Miss Mangoes and dethroned Miss Mangoes. King Mango Music Massacre will include bands: 18 Wheelers, Tall Boys Soul Band and RoadKill.

The Pre-Parade activities begin at 1:30 pm at the corner of Commodore Plaza and Main Highway with the Little Mr. & Miss. Mango Pageant (for kids 4-10) hosted by Buzz Fleischman, Radio Buzz from WLRN’s ‘South Florida Arts Beat’. Unlike Toddlers & Tiaras, everyone is expected to win. The winners will ride the first float of the Strut.

Parade begins at 2 pm at the corner of Commodore Plaza and Main Highway. The parade turns left onto Main Highway, turns left onto Grand Avenue at CocoWalk and back to Commodore Plaza. If we are having too much fun, we will go around again until we all fall down. After the Parade, Commodore Plaza will remain closed to traffic and the King Mango Music Massacre begins. All the bands in the parade will continue playing until the festivities end at 6pm.

All this entertainment is FREE and open to the public – meaning it wasn’t funded by TARP. There is plenty of parking along or near the parade route at CocoWalk, Mayfair, Coconut Grove Playhouse parking lot on Main Highway and Charles Avenue, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Coconut Grove Elementary School, City garage at Oak Avenue and Mary Street, and the City garage next to the Sonesta Hotel. Click here for Coconut Grove map for parking.

For those who don’t want to drive, take the Metrorail to the Coconut Grove Station. There will be shuttle buses (Coconut Grove Circulator) picking up eager parade-goers every 15 minutes at the station and dropping off by the parade route.

The 29th King Mango Strut in Coconut Grove 12/26/10

Be There Or Be Square!
Come & bring a friend – it will be a hoot!
Sunday, December 26 at 2 pm in Coconut Grove

Warning: This Parade Contains Nuts!
Join King Mango and his merry band of MangoHeads at the ultimate Tea party rally on Sunday, December 26th. Our theme this year is Restoring Humor.

At 2 pm, be there to witness the ceremonial banana dropping and the official start of the satirical parade to disperse gallons of oily jokes, slick skits and plumes of environmentally-challenged laughter into the pristine streets of downtown Coconut Grove. There’s no containment dome, top hat, or blow-out preventers for this all-day gusher of GLEE that is guaranteed to last a long, long time.

For this year’s Grand Marshal nothing but A Pair of Nuts would do to restore humor. The Nuts are the comedy sketch duo, Yamil Piedra and Johnny Trabanco. Their position on powder wigs and their wacky You-Tube videos wowed the selection committee with their commitment to Put the NUT back in CocoNUT Grove.

So bring your lawn chair and get ready to laugh because as creative as we are, we can’t possibly make this stuff up. Ripped from the headlines:

Get a pardon by Charlie Crist!
Look out for Wikileaks!
Glee club yourself with the Vuvuzelas Marching Band!
Ask for today’s special at the BP Café: Blackened Everything & Tuna Tar Tarred!
Fly with Christine O’Donnell on her I’m-not-a-Witch Tour!
Get that loving feeling from a TSA agent!
Receive a blessed condom from the Pope!
Become a member of Rick Scott’s cabinet!
Get bitten by bed bugs!
Touch this junk and not get arrested!
See what else the Chilean miners can crawl out of!
And if that wasn’t enough to want to grab a beer and bolt out an airplane’s emergency slide, watch out for Snooki, Lindsey Lohan, Brett Farve, Home Foreclosures, Illegal Aliens, and Lady Gaga. All this and Shakespeare ala Mango Strut performed by New Theatre!

King Mango Music Massacre will included bands: Iko-Iko, Tall Boys Soul Band and the Robby Hunter Band

The Pre-Parade activities begin at 1:30 pm at the corner of Commodore Plaza and Main Highway with Grand Master C, Buzz Fleischman, from WLRN’s ‘South Florida Arts Beat’ Radio Buzz hosting the Little Mr. & Miss. Mango Pageant (for kids 4-10). This highly competitive pageant will surely make the new weeper of the House of Representative, Rep. John Boehner, cry. Early polling shows everyone is expected to win. The winners will ride the first float of the Strut.

All parade-goers should arrive early this year to go through TSA checkpoints. Avoid pink thongs, gerbils and stocking stuffers to avoid delay and if asked, don’t tell. Grope discounts are available.

Parade begins at 2 pm at the corner of Commodore Plaza and Main Highway. The parade turns left onto Main Highway, turns left onto Grand Avenue at CocoWalk and back to Commodore Plaza. If we are having too much fun, we will go around again until we all fall down. After the Parade, the CommodorePlaza and Fuller Street will remain closed and the King Mango Music Massacre begins. All the bands in the parade will continue playing until the festivities end at 6 pm.

All this entertainment is free (cheaper than a therapist) and open to the public. There is plenty of parking along or near the parade route at Mayfair, CocoWalk, Coconut Grove Playhouse parking lot on Main Highway and Charles Avenue, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Coconut Grove Elementary School, City garage at Oak Avenue and Mary Street, and the City garage next to the Sonesta Hotel. Click here for map for parking.

If you don’t want to drive (who can blame you,) take the Metrorail to the Coconut Grove Station. There will be shuttle buses (the Coconut Grove Circulator) picking up eager parade-goers every 15 minutes at the station and dropping off 1 block from the parade route.

For more information, check our website www.kingmangostrut.org or call the Mango Hotline at 305-401-1171.

MOC Holiday Boat Parade
Saturday, December 18 at 7:00pm
down the waterways of Miami and Biscayne Bay. Viewing site at Bayside

The Holiday Boat Parade presented by the Miami Outboard Club, is an integral part of the City of Miami’s Holiday Magic celebrations, which each year brings residents together to benefit the children of Centro Mater Child Care Services, a non-profit organization.

The first annual Holiday Boat Parade was organized by the Miami Outboard Club in 1998 in an effort to attract residents and tourists to Biscayne Bay, Downtown Miami and surrounding areas during the holiday season. Nearly two dozen enthusiastic boat captains joined in the fun, decorating their boats and parading in the Bay waters adjacent to the Club. Over the past 12 winter seasons, the Holiday Boat Parade has grown in size and scope, attracting club members and non-members alike. Over the past few years the event, has featured more than 70 boats, and nearly 100 are expected this year.

This year’s parade route offers numerous locations from which locals and tourists alike can enjoy the marvel. Beginning at the Miami Outboard Club, the parade heads towards Miami Beach, passing Monument Island and crossing beneath the Macarthur Causeway between Monty’s South Beach and the U.S. Coast Guard Station. The parade route continues along Government Cut towards Downtown Miami, passing the Miami Children Museum, Bayside and Bay front Park. The parade route will turn around at Brickell Key, once again passing Bayfront Park, Bayside, and then American Airlines Arena. As the parade makes its way back to the Miami Outboard Club, boats motor beneath the McArthur Causeway Bridge and then pass Jungle Island and Miami Yacht Club.

The fun doesn’t end at the Parade’s finish line, Immediately following the parade, Miami Outboard Club will host a Dance Party for parade participants, their families, guests. During the post-parade party, prizes are awarded for best-decorated boats in a variety of categories.

The Annual Holiday Boat Parade is made possible through the ongoing cooperation of the U.S. Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Miami-Dade Marine Patrol, The City of Miami Police Department, The City of Miami Beach Police Department, and the generous support of individual and corporate sponsors. With increased participation and support from Miami’s business community, the Miami Outboard Club hopes to make the Holiday Boat Parade the largest of its kind in Florida.

Miami Beach is Proud. So proud, in fact, that the city needs an extra hour each day to tell its LGBT residents and visitors that it’s one of the most accepting and diverse cities in the world. That’s the message behind “Miami Beach Proud 25/7,” the theme of the city’s sponsorship of the Second Annual Miami Beach Gay Pride, Saturday, April 17, 2010.
“Miami Beach has a long and strong history of acceptance and progressive attitudes toward the LGBT community,” said City Manager Jorge M. Gonzalez. “In addition to being a top destination for LGBT travelers, we have a proud history of supporting our LGBT residents and businesses, including a domestic partnership registry, a Gay Business Development Committee, and one of the strongest human rights ordinances on record of any city.”
For the Miami Beach Gay Pride Parade, which kicks off at noon on Ocean Drive from 5th to 15th Streets, Gonzalez said the city will participate by fielding a street team, led by legendary drag diva Miss Elaine Lancaster, and complete with a large banner and body-painted marchers harnessed to giant “Miami Beach Proud 25/7” balloons. Members of the street team will also interact with spectators along the parade route and distribute 25/7 Proud fans, temporary tattoos and sunscreen samples, all designed to remind residents and visitors that there’s so much shopping, dining, staying, playing and discovering in Miami Beach they need an extra hour.
Following the parade, and until 6 p.m., the City of Miami Beach will have a major presence at the Gay Pride Expo on the sands of Lummus Park between 10th and 14th Streets. In addition to temporary tattoos, fans and sunscreen samples for visitors to the city’s Proud 25/7 booth, Pride-goers can register for a grand prize drawing for two round-trip airfares, courtesy of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, and two VIP tickets to New York Pride’s Dance on the Pier, Sunday, June 27, courtesy of the City of Miami Beach.
Finally, for those who want to share their favorite “Proud 25/7 moment” – or any Miami Beach 25/7 moment for that matter – the City is hosting a Facebook photo contest where the winner will receive a two-night stay and spa treatments from the Shore Club. To enter the photo contest, log onto www.miamibeach25-7.com, click on the Facebook link at the bottom of the page, and upload a photo to the Miami Beach 25/7 fan page.
To develop the Proud 25/7 campaign, the City of Miami Beach again partnered with Cre8tiv Juice Group to develop branding strategy, and The Treister Murry Agency for public relations and social marketing. Both firms are based in Miami Beach.

Despite rumors of its demise, the 28th King Mango Strut is alive and struttin!

On Sunday, December 27th at 2pm, King Mango Strut will unleash its own version of the stimulus package in the streets of downtown Coconut Grove.

The King Mango Strut, the true Public Option Plan, has been serving South Florida with quality satirical care for 27 years. With no deductible, no copay, no referrals require, all you need to do to sign up for America’s premier mental health care parade to bring your funniest idea and be willing to strut your stuff. There is no exclusion for pre-existing conditions and no one cares if you are in-network or out-of-network. Let The King Mango Strut be your primary laughter service provider committed to levity and healing our national recession crisis of humorously-challenged outlooks.

So come on out to party with the Mangoheads and get your strut on. Once you strut your stuff, you never go back to being a spectator. If you have a group and a funny plan – great! If you want to participate but don’t know what to do, don’t worry, the wacky Mangoheads will give you something nutty to do.

The King Mango Strut is the most fun event Miami has to offer, full of irreverent, creative and wacky people and lots of opportunity to make fun of everything and anything. There is no better place for strutting than in Miami. It provides more material that we could ever use. As creative as we are, even we couldn’t come up with some of this stuff.
