A culmination of the Bass Museum of Art’s ongoing initiative to work more closely with the Miami-Dade pubic school system. Creativity in the Classroom:IDEA@thebass is a samplings of works produced by the students of the Miami-Dade Public School system demonstrates the results from a series of professional development workshops that introduced the “Design Thinking” method of project-based learning to more than 100 local teachers. Workshop instructor Lourdes Fuller and Bass Museum of Art’s Director of Education, Dr. Adrienne von Lates inspired teachers to customize what they had learned at the Bass Museum of Art to fit within their lesson plans. This exhibition demonstrates the product of this method creating unique cross-curricular lessons plans and encouraging students from Kindergarten to high school to create original works of art including: narratives, original cartoons, paintings, sculpture and drawings. In conjunction with IDEA@thebass, Creativity In The Classroom is graciously funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

The baseball-inspired program is aimed to enrich the learning experiences of children grades 4-6

MIAMI ( April 10, 2013) – Marlins unveil the new Marlins Think Tank. The new curriculum- enhancement program is aimed to enrich the learning experiences of children grades 4 through 6 by linking baseball to the curriculum areas of Writing, Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Health & Fitness.

The program provides lesson plans which meet common core state standards as adopted by FDOE, with the Miami Marlins as the lesson theme. Throughout the lesson students will read about baseball and learn about Miami and even hear from some current Miami Marlins professional baseball players. Students will hear from players like Logan Morrison and learn his take on art, Mr. Marlin, Jeff Conine, who will discuss the science of baseball or Steve Cishek, who will share his thoughts on the importance of imagination.

The eight one-week individual sessions are as follows:
Session 1: June 17 – 21
Session 2: June 24 – 28
Session 3: July 1 – 5 (No classes on the 4th of July)
Session 4: July 8 – 12
Session 5: July 15 – 19
Session 6: July 22 – 26
Session 7: July 29 – August 2
Session 8: August 5 – 9
 
Class times are 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Before Care (7:45–9 a.m.) and After Care (4–6 p.m.) are offered at an additional cost.
 
Students in classes involving field trips will depart from the Miami Science Museum at 9:10 a.m.

The Miami Science Museum is gearing up for its 47th Annual Summer Camp! During the eight one-week camp sessions, kids aged 4-14 will enjoy engaging, unique, fun-filled experiences including ecology, robotics, engineering, technology, field trips and more. While camp activities will be specific to the session chosen each week, each class will feature science lessons, projects, experiments, and crafts, interspersed with time to explore the museum galleries, planetarium or theater shows, and a 30-minute outdoor PE time. Campers in the 2nd through 8th grade groups will also go on field trips.
 
Classes are offered in the following age categories (campers must be entering the grade(s) of the group in August 2013):
Pre-K (age 4 as of August 2013; must be potty-trained and able to handle all aspects of using the restroom alone)
Kindergarten
1st Grade
2nd & 3rd Grades
4th & 5th Grades
6th, 7th & 8th Grades

Instructor to camper ratio is 1:10. Lead teachers are certified teachers with over 5-10 years of teaching experience in Miami-Dade County public and private schools, who will deliver hands-on, interactive learning. Each lead teacher has experience working with children in the grade level to which they are assigned. Each class will also have a teaching aide.
 
Campers should bring their own lunch. Two healthy snacks will be provided each day.
 
Miami Science Museum 2013 Summer Camp is made possible by the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners. The Children’s Trust provides funding for scholarships to non-profit organizations that enable abused, neglected, and disadvantaged children to attend summer camp classes.
