Kilts & Colleens Weekend – March 17th and 18th – Sing, dance and be merry in your finest kilt whilst bagpipes blare throughout the Shire. Celebrate the Celtic traditions of the Irish, Scots, Cornish and Welsh during this uniquely themed weekend that honors this group of European tribes that existed during the Iron Age through Medieval Times!

The iconic Florida Renaissance Festival will ring in its 26th season, and, for the third year in a row, will offer an extraordinary SEVEN theme-filled weekends as well as a fantastical journey back in time with a variety of fan favorite acts and performances. Upon stepping inside the gates of our village, attendees will be transported back to 16th-century Europe where they will find jesters, jugglers and jousting knights along with music, costumed characters, human powered games, artisan craft shops and enough food & drink for a royal family feast! It’s a full day of fun and entertainment where the entire family can experience the magic of the Renaissance era through an immersive interactive, real audience-participation scenario.

Grillin N’ Chillin kicks off BBQ season with a full-blown countryside event that’s free for the entire family. Whether you’re craving backyard barbecue spare ribs, a southern brisket or a mouthwatering pulled pork sandwich, Grillin N Chillin has compiled 40-50 BBQ vendors from around town offering everything from Memphis style barbecue to Brazilian churrasco. Celebrating its 4th anniversary, this year’s festival will take place at the Wynwood Marketplace, more commonly known for hosting Wynwood Art Walk’s block party.

At Grillin’s Kitchen Lab, South Florida’s premier pit masters will take center stage to smoke the competition out at this year’s BBQ Cook Off. In between cooking demos, their saucy host will perform a ROAST comedy show. In addition, they will pit two local backyard chefs and their best burger recipe at Miami’s Best Backyard Burger competition. Those interested in participating should register their recipe at WynwoodBBQFest.com. For the first time ever, Grillin N’ Chillin will have a Veggie Corner, where Miami’s top, vegetarian and vegan eateries will showcase their menu. While kids enjoy the Family Fun Zone, adults can relax at The Pit, a pop-up BBQ-infused sports bar that will have bars and live music, or they can “Get Lost in the Sauce” at the huge sauce bar. Also, bring your furry pups, because the Hot Dogz playground will have plenty of treats for them to enjoy. In addition, the Animal Adoption Truck will be on site for those looking to take home a pet. Perhaps the coolest feature at this year’s Grillin N’ Chillin is both the humanitarian and ecological stand that it’s going to take. SWARM, the creators of this festival, will set up a Miami Rescue Mission tent, so that people can sponsor a meal for a hungry person. In addition, it will be “going green” by partnering with Debris Free Oceans to become a zero-waste event. “To date, no other event in South Florida has taken this into consideration, so we’re excited to have proper sorting, composting and recycling stations in addition to other green efforts,” says Tony Albelo, CEO at SWARM.

Sprung! is back for 2018 at a new Wynwood location, offering the unlimited craft beer samples everyone craves, and a brand-new theme. Beer and sports have always been a winning combination, so SWARM has brought the two together to make this annual Sprung! Spring Beer Festival, the most fun, free-spirited, beer-tasting event in town. Over four days, from March 1st-4th, the Tout-Monde Festival, a multidisciplinary contemporary arts festival inviting 24 Caribbean artists, will be presenting in four different cultural venues in Miami several cultural events spanning from all fields: visual and performing arts, music, film, literature and humanities. Some of these events include “Le cri de mes racines”, a duo dance performance dedicated to Haiti performed by Josiane Antourel & Yna Boulange (Saturday, March 3rd at 4 pm), Jacques Martial’s play on Aime Cesairs’s “Notebook of return to my native land” (7 pm). Along with “Heteronomonde”, a visual arts and photography exhibition, as well as a discussion with all artists (Sunday, March 4th at 11 am), and Tout- Monde Live: the urban art show”, a performance by street artists Ronald Cyrille and Black Kalagan specifically for the Tout- Monde Teens to engage within the festival (3 pm).

You are hereby notified by royal proclamation that your attendance is requested at the 26th annual Florida Renaissance Festival taking place from February 10th through March 25th, in the two-thousandth and eighteenth year A.D in the vast open land of Deerfield Beach’s Quiet Waters Park.

The iconic Florida Renaissance Festival will ring in its 26th season, and, for the third year in a row, will offer an extraordinary SEVEN theme-filled weekends as well as a fantastical journey back in time with a variety of fan favorite acts and performances. Upon stepping inside the gates of our village, attendees will be transported back to 16th-century Europe where they will find jesters, jugglers and jousting knights along with music, costumed characters, human powered games, artisan craft shops and enough food & drink for a royal family feast! It’s a full day of fun and entertainment where the entire family can experience the magic of the Renaissance era through an immersive interactive, real audience-participation scenario.

The Florida Renaissance Festival has grown into one of the nation’s most beloved events dedicated to recreating the historical era of the Renaissance, each year adding more entertainment and themed weekends while welcoming a crowd that has swelled over the years to nearly 100,000 annual attendees, and with more than two million people having participated over the course of the Festival’s 26 years.

“Being able to provide this alternate universe where attendees can immerse themselves in the rich history that is the Renaissance is something my team and I take great pride in,” said Bobby Rodriguez, Founder and Producer of the Florida Renaissance Festival. “We are proud to have the continuous support of the county, the city and our community which enables us to grow this event each year, resulting in a culturally enriching festival for people of all ages.”

Rodriguez has continuously raised the bar when it comes to incorporating new experiences into the Festival. Through his forward-thinking, he has set the standard for festivals of this nature to go “beyond Renaissance” by booking a variety of acts ranging from the Orient to Africa, as well as diversified themed weekends. The Florida Renaissance Festival 2018 themed weekends include:

* Swashbucklers and Sirens – February 10th – 11th
Shiver me timbers! This Pirate-themed opening weekend sees our village overrun with buccaneers and scallywags. Unearth the mysteries of the sea as sirens lure sailors and pirates alike. Anyone not prepared for a “salty” good time will be sent to walk the plank.

* Time Travelers’/Steampunk Weekend – February 17th – 19th
If you like donning a top hat, vest, breeches, and monocle, then board your favorite 18th-century submarine or fantasy-like hot air balloon and zoom for this weekend dedicated to adventurers across the centuries. Bring your brassies Victorian “gears” and join us for “Steampunkin'” good time! Open on President’s Day, Monday February 19th!

* Vikings and Barbarians – February 24th and 25th

Only the strongest and most courageous warriors will brave through this weekend. Norwegian brothers and sisters emerge from the mist on an icy wind, battleaxes in hand, donned in leather and fur during this chilling weekend.

* Bodacious Bodices & Wenches – March 3rd and 4th

Behind every good man is a wench in the trench. Wenches Weekend celebrates the women of the Renaissance with hourglass curves and firey attitudes who can go toe-to-toe with their male counterparts.

* International Weekend – March 10th and 11th
Yet another newly themed weekend! International Weekend celebrates all the exotic cultures that influenced the Renaissance in Europe through exploration and trade. From the Ottoman Empire to the Arabian peninsula, from Africa to the Orient, Polynesia and the New World, this weekend weaves in the impact that other exotic cultures left on this magnificent period.

* Kilts & Colleens – March 17th & 18th
Sing, dance and be merry in your finest kilt whilst bagpipes blare throughout the Shire. Celebrate the Celtic traditions of the Irish, Scots, Cornish and Welsh during this uniquely themed weekend that honors this group of European tribes that existed during the Iron Age through Medieval Times!

* Witches, Warlocks and all about Harry Potter – March 24th and 25th
Expecto Patronum! Bring on your baddest Patronus and chase away pesky dementors during this final themed weekend! Only the most magical witches and wizards in the village can conquer that which should not be mentioned! A jazz festival unlike any other, the South Beach Jazz Festival will take pride in featuring talented musicians with Disabilities. The South Beach Jazz Festival will feature a weekend of classic, Latin, and New Orleans-style acts that will attract jazz fans to South Beach hotels, theaters and restaurants. Most acts performing under the festival’s auspices will showcase the artistry of at least one person with a disability. Hidden secrets revealed by Barry Fellman’s Mangrove Coast photos will be on view in an invited installation at this year’s Art Miami Fair. Open free to the public during Miami Art Week, new photos from this multi-year project will be presented in a specially designed shipping container at the entrance of Art Miami. The installation, part of the Deep See project, will invite viewers into an immersive water focused experience.

Felllman’s images seduce you, inviting you closer to understand them. As you approach they clarify into familiar forms of sea grasses and shells, while basic notions of scale and distance remain a mystery until your nose is nearly pressed against the photograph. You then realize you are looking at a wondrous and fantastic view of the shoreline, full of secrets and mysteries.

The mangrove ecosystem provides shoreline protection and serves as the economic base for the recreational and commercial activities that have made South Florida prosper. It recycles nutrients and is the breeding and feeding grounds for hundreds of species, nurturing a wide range of marine life, amphibians, birds, and mammals.

Mangrove Coast at Art Miami is one of four invited components of the Deep See project highlighting awareness about climate change, sea level rise and marine conservation.

Join us for the fifth annual Buskerfest Miami Street Performance Festival in Downtown Miami on Friday, December 15th! From 4-7 pm, local artists will perform 45-minute sets at the Inner Loop stops of the Metromover and select satellite locations, including the Olympia Theater, Sparky’s Roadside Barbecue and Miami Center for Architecture and Design. Starting at 6pm the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives will be screening historical Miami footage in Bayfront Park. This year our Children’s Corner is presented by Miami Children’s Museum, and moves to Bayfront Park for an abundance of vibrant, interactive story readings, performances, crafts and activities. The Dean Collection and BACARDÍ present No Commission: Miami 2017, a three-day, art and music experience taking place December 7 – 9, 2017, at Soho Studios in Wynwood. No Commission is a roving experiential platform organized by The Dean Collection and BACARDÍ to forge a direct link between art and art patronage. No Commission is designed specifically to support artists in different territories around the world.

No Commission Miami 2017 casts a thematic light on “Island Might”, which suggests the power and possibility, tradition and future of a place and its people. The “ways of an island”— its functioning components and life essentials are guiding principles. We examine family, land & sea, ritual, revolution and color as elemental forces that can illuminate the roadmap for a more generous, stable fate.

The injection of immersive music performances from collaborator BACARDÍ shakes up the traditional art fair, creating a unique culture experience for visitors. Past performers have included Alicia Keys, Major Lazer, A$AP Rocky, Cardi B, DMX, Pusha T and more. There are also some fantastic artist profiles of individuals who have gone on to find tremendous success following their No Commission exhibitions.

No Commission Miami is the sixth in a series of artist support collaborations. Past editions were held in Miami, New York, London, Shanghai and Berlin where artworks were sold and artists retained 100% of sales proceeds. The No Commission platform is realized through a partnership between BACARDÍ, Swizz Beatz, and The Dean Collection in their continued support of cultural visionaries around the world.

No Commission: Miami is open via invitation only on Thursday, December 7. On Friday, December 8 and Saturday, December 9 No Commission: Miami will be open to the public from 12pm to 5pm, and from 7pm to 12am with valid registration.

Basel House Mural Fest To Become the Epicenter Of Street Art During Art Basel
40+ Murals, 60+ Artists, FREE Concerts, Food Trucks & More

The RC Cola Plant and surrounding Wynwood neighborhood will become the “epicenter of the graffiti world” during Basel House Mural Festival. Over the course of four days, there will be 40+ mural projects and 60+ top street artists from across the globe painting large murals across six city blocks in Wynwood Art District, including a digital arts and VR playground that will bring art to life. The FREE block party will offer live painting, unique art installations, live music, late-night DJs, artists, a vendor market, and food trucks. In addition, you can watch the creation process of the first mural in Wynwood to be painted by a robot designed by engineers from the University of Florida, and/or take part in Street Skool, where you can join panel discussions, workshops & networking sessions with industry peers.

Basel House is designed to be inclusive of all artists and people. It will unite top Miami Street Artists with those from across the globe and present them before an international audience of 80,000 people.

Miami Book Fair kicks off this year on Sunday, November 12th, with a photo exhibition for HURRICANE, a new book by Miami photographer, Barry Fellman, with spectacular photos that transform devastation into art. The book includes essays by hurricane hero Bryan Norcross, and Vicki Goldberg, art critic of the NY Times.

HURRICANE will be featured when MDC president Eduardo Padrón opens the Miami Book Fair November 12, and is the only book with an exhibition at the Fair. Grovetoberfest is back in the Grove, and it’s bigger than ever. For the past six years, the festival has served up one of the top craft beer events in the country, attracting close to 7,000 beer enthusiasts eager to drink unlimited samples of 400 beers from hundreds of breweries, all while listening to Live music. This year, festival organizers worked closely with Coconut Grove Commissioner Ken Russell to move back to where it all began in Peacock Park, and the news has been met with great excitement.

To celebrate, Grovetoberfest has put together a great lineup including “first time” pours from 81 Bay Brew Company, Aslin Beer Company, Hidden Springs Ale Works, Lord Hobo Brewing, Ocleot Brewing, and Proof Brewing Company. Some returning heavyweights include 3 Sons Brewing Co., Octave Brewing, and Odd Breed Wild Ales. Also returning will be Angry Chair Brewing, Civil Society Brewing, and J. Wakefield Brewing. In addition, Grovetoberfest will have treatments from LauderAle Brewing, 26° Brewing Company, and 81Bay Brewing Co. The Homegrown Pavilion will delight beer drinkers with a collection of up and coming Florida brewers.

This year, the festival’s Kitchen Lab will be presented by Macy’s. The chefs, who will be conducting demos that pair well with beer, hail from Grove Bay Hospitality Group and include Chef Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth from Stiltsville Fish Bar, Chef Brett Hessler from American Harvest, Chef Jeremy Ford from Stubborn Seed and Chef Giorgio Rapicavoli from Glass and Vine.

Miami New Times’ Iron Fork celebrates its tenth anniversary Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the Hyatt Regency Miami. Dining enthusiasts can enjoy dishes from some of the finest restaurants in South Florida. The event’s footprint will extend into the James L. Knight Center’s world-class theater and entertainment venue next door.

This year’s Iron Fork will grow exponentially, bringing culinary creations from more than 75 of South Florida’s luxury and fine-dining restaurants, including Amore de Miami, the Brick, Toro Toro, Texas de Brazil, Cibo Wine Bar, Morton’s Steak House, Dr. Limon Ceviche, Caja Caliente, Wine Date, Sensory Delight, Soyka, and Kaori, to name a few.

In addition, New Times is proud to announce a partnership with the Miami Rescue Mission. For almost a century, its outreach centers have been housing the homeless across South Florida. Today the mission’s Miami-Dade and Broward centers serve more than 1,300 men, women, and children each day. Last year, the organization served more than a million meals, many of them to hungry children. It also houses approximately 800 people in residential, life-changing programs. Guests can participate in a special raffle during the event, with 100 percent of all proceeds going to support the cause.

As in past years, celebrated chef Allen Susser will host the Chef Competition, a fierce fight to the culinary finish between two of Miami’s hottest toques. The competitors will be announced soon!

The epicurean event will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. for general admission ticket holders and will bring together thousands of young professionals, local businesses, and foodies for an evening of gourmet food selections, tasty libations, and live entertainment. Surfside’s First Fridays beach picnic series is back with a bash — Bollywood style. The Indian inspired beach picnic in Miami’s uptown beachtown is taking place Friday, August 4th. This not-to-miss family-friendly affair will feature Bollywood music, henna tattoos, healthy bites and decked-out Bollywood dancers. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to bring their kiddos to enjoy Surfside’s pristine beach and take advantage of loads of activities for children including art-making and oversized floaties. Art aficionados can partake in a walking tour of the InsideOut pop-up art exhibit presented by Perez Art Museum and stroll along Surfside’s beach to discover reproductions of masterpieces from PAMM’s permanent art collection by 15 renowned artists. Visitors may bring their own beach picnic supplies and beach gear.

The Friday Beach Picnic is scheduled from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on August 4, 2017 at the Oceanfront Community Center, located at 9301 Collins Avenue. First Fridays is free and open to the public.

About Dj Camilo
WARNING! Before he was a Heavy Hitter, a Party Rocker or an International Club King, DJ Camilo was just a Colombian kid from Queens named Juan Camilo Sanchez. Introduced to the art of turntables at age 12, Camilo debuted his first mixtape in the 1990’s called “CAMILO Vol. 1”. Encouraged by the positive response “CAMILO Vol. 1” received, Camilo began releasing monthly mixtapes and quickly made a name for himself in the NYC club scene. In 2001, he caught the eye of DJ Enuff, who worked at the most famous hip-hop radio station in America: New York’s Hot 97. Along with the late DJ Threat, Enuff invited Camilo to join their new DJ crew called The Heavy Hitters.

After earning himself a spot on Hot 97’s roster, Camilo began hosting his own Saturday night show called “Take It to the Streets,” which was so successful that it led to an additional show on Friday nights called “The Heavy Hitter Hour.” After spotting growing interest in the Latin music market, Camilo started to blend Latin urban music into the American radio market at HOT 97 – becoming one of the first influential DJs to merge both demographics live on air. Claude Debussy’s enchanting Suite Bergamesque, with its immortal moonlit vignette Claire de lune, is the starting point for Anton Nel’s widely varied program, which also captures the essence of Debussy as filtered through the Hungarian lens of Zoltan Kodaly in his Meditation sur un motif de Claude Debussy. Nel offers Robert Schumann’s reflections on a Viennese carnival in Faschingsschwank aus Wien, Op. 26, and the journey ends with Beethoven’s valedictory Piano Sonata No. 21, the “Waldstein.” Anton Nel returns for his second season as part of the MMF Piano Institute faculty. He holds the Endowed Chair of Piano and Keyboard Studies at the Butler School of Music, University of Texas at Austin.

For the 18th consecutive year, the City of Wilton Manors will host the largest LGBT pride event in the greater Fort Lauderdale area. Commemorating the Stonewall Riots of 1969, the Stonewall Parade and Festival draws nearly 40,000 participants from across the U.S. This year, the marketplace, which will open at 3 p.m., will feature more than 100 vendors, exhibitors and food trucks. At 4 p.m., the much-anticipated Stonewall Parade will travel down the north side of Wilton Drive. Four stages will feature live music, DJs, and local performers throughout the day.

For the past couple of years, South Florida has celebrated Colombian Independence Day at MegaRumba Colombia. SWARM and iHeart’s Tu 94.9 have revamped the festivity into an all-encompassing celebration with a broader reason to celebrate at MegaRumba: Celebrate YOUR Independence. This coming July 15, celebrate YOUR culture at the, free, all-day event in Wynwood — Miami’s most culturally dynamic neighborhood.

The free festival will run from 3PM to 3AM. It will focus on South Florida’s rich and vibrant melting pot, with special attention to its deep musical influences. People can expect to see activities for all ages throughout the day with programming moving into a full-blown concert as the day progresses. Handpicked art/craft vendors and food trucks will be available until the very end, offering a little bit of everything that makes South Florida so unique and tasty. In the past, organizers have brought Latin Billboard winners including Maluma, Grupo Niche, Jorge Celedón, ChoquibTown and Victor Manuel. The musical lineup will soon be announced, but it will include local town favorites and top performances provided by iHeart’s Tu 94.9 FM, a major sponsor since its inception.

The Town of Surfside invites Miamians to pack their picnic baskets for a family-friendly Moroccan Beach Picnic to kick-off the town’s much-anticipated monthly First Fridays event on Friday, May 5. Unlike any other community event, this casual soiree takes place on Surfside’s pristine beach and is a great way to experience the ever-evolving area like a local. Enjoy live Middle Eastern music, belly dancers, drum circle and tipi village for kids, cold-pressed juices, coconut water courtesy of Harmless Harvest, and healthy snacks. For a hint of beachside couture, luxury women’s fashion boutique, Le Beau Moroc, plans to showcase new seasonal Moroccan designs during a fashion show on the sand. Not to mention, guests can take refuge from the sun under ornately designed oversized tents. The Moroccan Beach Picnic is scheduled for 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on May 5, 2017 at the Oceanfront Community Center, located at 9301 Harding Avenue in Surfside. This is the first of a series of four events, which will be held every first Friday of the month, from May until August.
