Photographs of Perez Art Museum Miami Poplife Social June Event by Mr Q 305

This past Thursday, the Pérez Art Museum (PAMM) Poplife Social featured John Hancock III whose sounds ranged from spaced out Arthur Russell inspired grooves to hyped-up digital calypso.

The third Thursdays Poplife Social have received a very positive response from the community and to meet the growing demand for the series, they have added pre-ticketing and more food and bar stations.

The menu items included Miso Glazed Chicken Skewers, Pork Belly Bao Buns, Grilled Mushroom Bao Buns, Shrimp Chips and Kimchee pickles.

This was the perfect way to enjoy a Thursday evening: Art galleries, live music and great food!

“Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) is proud to present Miami Beach’s Art Deco Museum.  The Museum allows tourists and local to better understand the architectural heritage and community culture of Miami Beach. MDPL designed the museum to be educational and informational, while reflecting the fun and glamour of Miami Beach.”

You will also learn about the development of the City Miami Beach. The Miami Beach Visual Memoirs project has recorded the personal stories of people who have been a part of Miami Beach’s story. MDPL’s history is also on display so that guests can learn more about preservation. The museum includes a resource center, a children’s area, rotating exhibits and much more!”

Photograph of Opa-locka: Mirage City Exhibition Opening at HistoryMiami on 6/27/13

Opa-locka: Mirage City Exhibition Opening at HistoryMiami on Thursday, June 27, 2013.  This is an amazing exhibition I had no idea that Opa-Locka had such an interesting and wonderful history.  The exhibition runs from June 28, 2013 – September 08, 2013, this a must see.

“Opa-locka: Mirage City explores one of South Florida’s most unique architectural communities. Based on stories and names of characters from the Arabian Tales, Opa-locka presents itself as both eccentric dream; an exotic Middle-eastern urban oasis in a subtropical paradise, and tourist’s kitsch; an architectural conceit more akin to a Hollywood film set. Founded in the 1920s in an undeveloped area of northwest Miami-Dade, the city is a highly romanticized interpretation of an exotic cultural milieu popularized by Hollywood films and archeological discoveries of its time. The exhibition presents original drawings and architectural models that reintroduce the original fabled vision, aiming to rouse interest in the city’s iconic structural design and encourage efforts to preserve its endangered architectural heritage.”
