Best selling author Les Standiford discusses the lure and practice of writing historical narrative and micro-history for modern readers. Standiford is Founding Director of the Creative Writing Program at Florida International Unisversity and is the author of 21 books and novels including Last Train to Paradise, Meet You in Hell, and the soon to be filmed The Man Who Invented Christmas. Last Train to Paradise is the “one-read” selection of more than a dozen Public Library systems and his most recent book, Water to the Angeles: William Mulholland, His Monumental Aqueduct, and the Rise of Los Angeles, was a featured alternate of the History Book Club. Standiford will share excerpts from his work and advice to writers drawn from 3 decades of literary practice.
