Since 2005, PULSE Contemporary Art Fair has been the premiere satellite fair for the discovery and acquisition of cutting-edge contemporary art. With annual editions in Miami Beach and New York City, the fair cultivates a supportive environment for its international community of galleries and provides a platform for their growth and expansion in the contemporary art market. From its inception, PULSE has presented thoughtfully-curated exhibitions and ever-evolving programming that reflect the fair’s commitment to making the visitor experience a dynamic one.

PULSE Contemporary Art Fair is delighted to announce its 2014 Miami Beach programming highlights and PULSE Prize nominees for its tenth anniversary edition. With over 170 exhibiting artists presented by a select group of exhibitors from Asia, Europe and the Americas, PULSE Miami Beach will offer visitors a dynamic environment in which to discover and collect cutting-edge contemporary art.

PULSE Projects, the fair’s presentation of large-scale installations and performance, will feature a piece by Ontario-based artist Shayne Dark, presented by Art Mûr. Tangle Wood (below), Dark’s meditative 8x18x10’ painted wood sculpture, is a reference to log driving on North American rivers in the early part of the century. Jenna Spevack will also present Birds of Brooklyn, an audio installation that brings the sounds of displaced and bygone birds to sites in Brooklyn and Miami, courtesy of the artist and Mixed Greens.

PULSE Play, the fair’s platform for new media and video art, will be presented by Tumblr and curated by new media scholar Lindsay Howard. For PULSE Play, Howard will select a group of artists whose work is thematically linked from among exhibiting galleries. “Video and New Media Art have become essential components of contemporary art collections. The artists included in PULSE Play are experimenting with the aesthetics and technical aspects of emergent technologies, through topics such as religion, poetry, human form, light, and performance,” explains Lindsay Howard. The PULSE Play selections will be on view on PULSE’s Tumblr, and at the fair.

PULSE is honored to present the PULSE Prize—a cash grant awarded directly to a jury-selected artist of distinction who is being exhibited in a solo booth at the fair. The New York 2014 winner of the PULSE Prize was Hassan Hajjaj, presented by GUSFORD | los angeles.
