The Philadelphia Youth Media Collaborative was created in 2009 to give children and young adults an outlet for their creative talents. The PYMC was started when representatives from local media organizations including, YES Philly, Media Education Lab at Temple University, Big Picture Alliance, University Community Collaborative of Philadelphia,WHYY Dorrance H. Hamilton Public Media Commons, PhillyCAM, Scribe Video Center, Spiral Q Puppet Theater, and Mural Arts Program started to meet regularly for information exchange and networking.

In 2011 The Philadelphia Youth Media Collaborative gained support from the Philadelphia Foundations Fund for Children to build a strong network for the youths involvement in Philadelphia’s media programs.  Each year in Philadelphia more than 4,000 youth participate in a variety of youth media programs.  The Philadelphia Youth Media Collaborative is helping strengthen these programs and provides networking between groups, making the youth media programs in Philadelphia a force to be reckoned with.  The Philadelphia Youth Media Collaborative has goals of bringing awareness to the value and impact of media arts education and creating platforms to showcase youth media productions.

The Philadelphia Youth Media Collaborative has already had much success in networking and showcasing the projects done by the youth.  They have successfully strengthened and expanded media participants and outreach with their program.
