Sweetwater Mayor Manny Maroño has joined forces with Representative Frank Artiles (R-Dist. 118) to bring a Farm Share food distribution event to the City of Sweetwater that will benefit over a thousand families.

Food will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Event is open to residents of Sweetwater and surrounding areas.

Farm Share will have a refrigerated truck with over 1000 frozen chickens and another truck with fresh food that includes tomatoes, melon, cucumbers, dry beans, rice and pasta. There will also be 64 ounce bottles of grapefruit and orange juice available. Hundreds of families will be given a bag of produce, a bag of dry goods and a chicken.

Farm Share is a non-profit organization, whose mission is to alleviate hunger and malnutrition by recovering fresh and nutritious food and distributing it to those who need it most.

“We’ve hosted Farm Share food distribution drives in the past and each time hundreds of people in need attend and go home with bags full of healthy food,” said City of Sweetwater Mayor Manny Maroño. “This is a needed service in our community and a worthy initiative.”

“I’m proud to provide the necessary support from the State of Florida so that Farm Share can continue to get fresh, nutritious food into the hands of the neediest families in our community. This effort demonstrates how members of government at the local and state level can work together in finding ways of distributing fresh fruits and non-processed foods to our elderly and low-income families,” stated Artiles.
