Mourning Family Foundation, a not-for-profit organization supporting youth development and education programs, including Overtown Youth Center and Honey Shine Mentoring Program, today announced the launch of its first annual gourmet get down, “Wings & Wine.” The inaugural event takes place on the eve of the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF) in collaboration with Bobby Deen, bestselling author and host of the Cooking Channel show, Not My Mama’s Meals. The exclusive dinner and networking event takes place at 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, at The Raleigh hotel located at 1775 Collins Ave, Miami Beach. The fundraising event features a decadent Southern-style menu, designed by the celebrity chef in conjunction with the Chef de Cuisine at The Raleigh, Daniel Ganem, and features entertainment by Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and actress, Jill Scott.

The Southern-style menu includes traditional favorites cooked and prepared with a low-cal spin. Guests will also enjoy a variety of chicken wing flavors and options – kabob-style, boneless, make your own sauce, and more! To wash it all down, there will be a bottomless array of wines from Nickel & Nickel Single Vineyard Wines, and cocktails provided by Chambord Vodka and Jack Daniels Honey.

After the success of her last album, Light of The Sun, Jill Scott has been touring and preparing for the release of the FOX feature film “Baggage Claim,” in which she stars. The film is scheduled for release in Fall 2013.

Earlier this month, Bobby Dean released a new cookbook, “From Mama’s Table to Mine: Everybody’s Favorite Comfort Foods at 350 Calories or Less.” Several of the menu options featured at Wings & Wine were inspired by this book. Currently, the celebrity television chef is touring the U.S. for the launch of his newest book.

Since 1997, the Mourning Family Foundation, formerly Alonzo Mourning Charities, has served as hosts to fundraising events and galas in South Florida to advocate and empower underprivileged families and children through educational programs and resources. Together, Tracy and Alonzo Mourning have raised more than $10 million for their charity initiatives, including, Overtown Youth Center, a state-of-the-art facility that serves as a safe haven for children and families to participate in recreational and educational activities from 2nd grade through graduation, and Honey Shine Mentoring Program, which provides at-risk young women with positive role models and influences through its enrichment programs, workshops, camps and sisterhood. The addition of this annual event further supports the Mourning’s goal of creating a better tomorrow by investing in the youth of today.
