The Bakehouse Art Complex (BAC), South Florida’s premiere center for emerging and mid-career artists, presents the inaugural exhibition in an annual series, entitled BAC Spotlight, featuring BAC Resident Artist, José Pacheco Silva. Guest curators Adriana Herrera and Willy Castellanos, of the Aluna Curatorial Collective, collaborated with Pacheco Silva for the past year to develop Transformed Interceptions / Encuentros Transformados. This premiere solo exhibition will open with a preview on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 7-10pm in the Audrey Love Gallery. Also opening that evening is another solo exhibition in the Swenson Gallery featuring Bryan Hiveley entitled The Snake Revolution. Both exhibitions will be on view to the public through March 1, 2013.

About Transformed Interceptions / Encuentros Transformados by José Pacheco Silva:
"Behind the austerity of these photographs, there lies hidden the affective intention of retaining the image of the places where he passed by, with the knowledge that everything is condemned to a form of destruction. His references to this responds more to a personal biography than to a collective memory, but they construct a poetic of death as a constant chord of his work, inseparable from the notion that everything is out of control. This idea trespasses the same creative process in which Pacheco Silva leaves space to accident and chance. His works, fabricated through montages that mix pictures with blackened blocks of wood, and violent expressive strokes, contain gestures foreign to perfect forms, but have the capacity to make the gaze burn. In this act of preservation, one can see the "concept of salvaging" that Walter Benjamin united to the recovering of the past. Although it is submerged in nostalgia, his work contains that of an affirmation, a laugh that affectively maintains the spaces that were once inhabited, and that now belong to the construction of the artistic world of José Pacheco Silva, for whom this exhibition is an entrance." -Aluna Curatorial Collective.

About The Snake Revolution by Bryan Hiveley:
This solo exhibition is about the absurdity of nature and the artist’s fascination of evolution and intelligent design… It challenges these ideas by breaking the laws of nature. The artworks are based on the artist’s individual interpretations of animals and serves to question their typical archetypes and zoological imagery.
