CIFO presents Tania Brugueras in commemoration of Jose Marti’s establishment of the Partido Revolucionario Cubano in Key West

As part of its 2012 Art Basel Miami Beach Program, the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) welcomes performance artist Tania Brugueras  (Cuba), winner of the CIFO 2011 Grants & Commissions Program.
 
Born in Havana, Tania Bruguera is an installation and performance artist, as well as an academic, trained at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her renowned and provocative work concentrates around issues of power and control. She lives and works between Chicago and Havana.  Her work has been exhibited in New York, Chicago, Miami, The Netherlands, Germany, Finland, England, Cuba, Austria, Belgium, Mexico and Spain. She has lectured extensively internationally at The New School in New York, The School of the Art Institute in Chicago, The Royal College of Art in London and The Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others.
On December 18th (National Migrants Day) and in commemoration of Jose Marti’s establishment of the Partido Revolucionario Cubano in Key West, Florida, Tania will open up and present her research challenging the meaning of the word “revolución”.  This encounter will take place in Key West, the same place where Marti wrote his first draft for the foundation of the Partido Revolucionario.
