“Craters” rises from the thought that as people move away from their natural environments, so does their understanding of life. In pursuit of encouraging the viewer to reconsider their world, Zimmerer explores the Earth by re-imagining the American wilderness, unfamiliar lands and the ways in which humans might live if they were closer to their roots.

According to the artist, the world most of us face every day is distant from the world we would face without civilization. Our progression to industrialization and the age of computers has enabled man’s accomplishments to flourish. At the same time, while technology provides endless benefits to society, it also triggers a detachment from our roots.

Delving into the poetics of landscape portraiture, Zimmerer’s photographs take the viewer through a journey where the natural cohabits with the humane in almost strange ways, restarting the imaginative past and turning it into a present opportunity to let go, fantasize and reconsider about what we aren’t anymore.

At the end, “Craters” explores the notions of space, land and their direct relationship with our position in this ancient planet, and wonders if humans in nature are an antiquated manner or do we need that relationship more than we have thought?

“Craters” will be open to the public on Thursday, December 6th from 6:00 to 10 pm at 310 NW 24th. St. Miami, FL 33127 (Wynwood Art District). The second opening night will take place during “Art Walk” on Saturday, December 8th. The show will end on February 2nd, 2013.
