Mohogany is a multi-layered performance project adapted from the written works of 1930’s German playwright/poet: Bertolt Brect and features original music by composer: Kurt Waill. This complex and mesmerizing presentation has been adapted for Miami audiences and is the brainchild of director/producer: Jose’Manuel Dominguez in collaboration with emerging artist/musician: Rayko Redwolf.

Originally entitled: (The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny), about a fictitious city founded by immigrants in an unknown place in Florida, also named Mahagonny. The town of Mahagonny is a place founded as a result of forced migration that becomes a decadent attraction for many immigrants. The work talks about the dreams of generations of immigrants, the process of adaptation, corruption, and the economic crisis among other things. The story is centered on a main character, Jimmy, and his struggles as a musician trying to succeed.

While Mahagonny is a fictionalized city, there are many parallels to life in Miami: The radically different lives of the very rich and very poor, the life of immigrants, everyone’s pursuit of the American dream, and meteorological and psychological phenomena of hurricanes, which, in this city, like in Miami, they are a seasonal dramatic issue.

Mahagonny will be a full-length performance that uses the atmosphere of cabaret. The particular performative universe of this work will be created by using dancers, actors and musicians, all working collaboratively. There are many elements of physical theater and all of the performers move and dance; some of the actors will have interventions as musicians; and some of the musicians will be actors.

Mahagonny will appeal to all kinds of adult audiences, especially in terms of age, ethnicity and linguistic diversity. The piece will be performed in Spanish with supertitles in English. The project is design within a fully accessible concept. Audiences interested in the professional development and expression of persons with disabilities will be especially interested in this work.

We invite you to come out to a performance of MAHOGANY and have your soul stirred by an amazing ensemble cast including: Ivette Kellems, Carlos Ortiz, Jose Salinas, Luis Nalerio, Yesenia Nieblas, Fernando Goicochea, Gabriel Ochoa, Bernardo Bernal, Sebastián Ochoa, and Sergio Mora. Rayko Redwolf (music director and performer), José Brown, Hans Hernandez, Set and Costume Designer: Susy Raffo, all under the direction of Artistic director: José Manuel Domínguez, Assistant director: Maria A. Franco and Executive producer: Alex Negron.
