Once Arts Gallery has announced it will debut the works of celebrated international photographers, Stephen Ach and Enrique Badulescu during Art Basel week. The gallery exhibition will feature each artist’s newest collections, Ach’s Joropo – Spiral of Seduction and Badulescu’s My Life Below <My Life Above>, which blend traditional photography with artistic elements to capture split-second moments and nuances in traditional dances and airports, respectively.

The exhibition will serve as the first installation of The Zone, a pop-up gallery of contemporary photography that will travel the world searching for new visions from emerging and established photographers.

Best friends since college, Ach and Badulescu are celebrated fashion photographers who have captured images for top publications, designers and musical talents worldwide. Ach, whose recent photography focuses on the essence of Latin American landscapes and popular traditions, named his latest collection, Joropo, after the traditional Colombian dance. The collection features vivid images that capture an instant in the dance, with colorful photographs that blur the line between photography and art.

“Joropo aims to capture the Latin happiness and joy reflected in the spiral-like dance of which submission and social order are the subject,” Ach said.

Badulescu’s collection, My Life Below <My Life Above>, provides a window into his detailed observations of color, people, airstrips and clouds perceived during his many hours spent in airports around the globe. In his collection, Badulescu captures snapshots of seemingly mundane objects, bringing them to life in one-of-a-kind digital collages and landscape portraits.

“This project enables us to fly above the clouds,” Badulescu said. “Stripes, numbers, signs and arrows signal our own journey through life.”
