Magic City Casino, Miami’s first casino to offer Las Vegas style slot machines, will host the 2012 Film, Recording and Entertainment Council’s (FREC) Star Gala on Saturday, November 3 at 6:30pm. The primary mission of FREC is to promote economic development for the entertainment industry in South Florida and to position South Florida as the premier entertainment industry hot spot. Among the event’s highlights, the 2012 FREC Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to entertainer and honoree, David Cassidy. Emmy Award-winning journalist and NBC 6 anchor, Trina Robinson, and nationally syndicated daytime host of the “Judge David Young” show, Judge David Young, will emcee the black-tie gala. Live entertainment will be featured by freestyle band, Erotic Exotic.

“We are excited to be the home of this star-studded event and are proud to recognize the 2012 FREC Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient, David Cassidy,” says Scott Savin, Chief Operating Officer of Magic City Casino. “It will be great to see all of David’s professional and charitable achievements honored at this event.”

The event artist, Damien Cruz, was recognized by Florida Gov. Rick Scott in 2011 to represent the state as the featured artist for the 2011 National Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration in Florida. Cruz’s colorful illustrations blend his memories of Cuban landscapes and his reflections on the land of opportunity.

The FREC Lifetime Achievement Award is given to individuals who have made a significant impact to the entertainment industry. To that end, David Cassidy’s diverse and long lasting career as a performer is a perfect example of this goal. Cassidy is best known for his role as Keith Partridge in the 1970’s sitcom “The Partridge Family.” The year “The Partridge Family” premiered, Cassidy had the #1 selling single of the year, “I Think I Love You,” and record of the year, The Partridge Family Album. As a performer, Cassidy garnered multiple Grammy nominations and won a Golden Apple Award. Cassidy’s records have sold well over 30 million copies worldwide and have been recognized with over 24 gold and platinum recordings, including four consecutive multi-platinum LP’s. In 1999, Cassidy was named “Best All Around Performer,” “Entertainer of the Year” and “Show Star of the Year” for his role in “The Rat Pack Is Back” by the Review Journal’s Best of Las Vegas. In addition to performing, producing, writing and recording, Cassidy is also an active spokesperson for the Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation (ARPF) and related organizations.

Past Lifetime Achievement Award recipients have included Jon Secada, three-time Grammy Award winner, Jerry Powers, CEO of Plum Miami magazine and Jonathan D. Krane, acclaimed producer, writer and actor.
