The Center for Leadership at FIU is pleased to announce its inaugural “Leadership Master Class” to be presented by Modesto “Mitch” Maidique, President Emeritus of Florida International University (FIU) and the Executive Director of the FIU Center for Leadership.

The annual class, which will focus on the subject “Whom Do You Serve? A Developmental Model of Leadership,” will take place on October 16, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Room 243 at the Graham Center on the Modesto Maidique campus of FIU located at 11200 SW 8th Street. The class is free and open to the public.

“In my thirty years of leadership, I have had the privilege of talking one-on-one with leaders around the world, from the CEO of a local start-up to the Dalai Lama, in all types of businesses, organizations and endeavors,” says Maidique. “I have heard their wisdom and recommendations on the subject of leadership and I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned in an annual Leadership Master Class.”

Using his highly-acclaimed six-level Purpose Driven Model of Leadership which he wrote about in the Harvard Business Review, Maidique, a Harvard visiting professor, will help participants analyze their type of leadership.  His Purpose-Driven Model of Leadership proposes a developmental model for assessing leadership motivation and impact and suggests a more deliberate and effective decision-making process for leaders at various stages of their careers.

The class is designed for those currently in leadership positions and for those aspiring to obtain a leadership role. Participants will receive the latest research, findings and thinking on leadership, most of which have been gathered first hand by Maidique.  This invaluable information, including innovative ideas on leadership, is designed to be put to use right away by participants.

“Leadership is not for everybody but those who are privileged to be a leader absolutely have a responsibility to learn and keep up to speed on the latest insight and information in order to be the best they can be,” adds Maidique. “As we believe leadership is the axis of the world, the Leadership Master Class will be instrumental in carrying out the Center for Leadership’s mission of ‘Better leaders, better world.’”
