RARELY SCREENED 1970s FILMS BY ARTIST ED RUSCHA TO BE PRESENTED AT MOCA
Wednesday, August 1 at 7 pm

Films at MOCA will present Premium (1971, 24 min.) and Miracle (1975, 28 min.), two rarely shown films by legendary West Coast artist Ed Ruscha on Wednesday, August 1 at 7 pm. Ed Ruscha, who is the subject of the current Museum of Contemporary Art exhibition, Ed Ruscha: On the Road (on view through September 2) is best-known for his artists’ books, paintings and photographs that document and comment on the shifting character of the American landscape. Ruscha also experimented in the film medium and these two films from the 1970s display a gift for deadpan humor.

Admission to the screening is free for MOCA members, North Miami residents and City of North Miami employees; $5 adults, $3 for students with ID and seniors. Galleries will be open until 9 pm that evening.

Premium (1971) is based on the Mason Williams short story “How to Derive the Maximum Enjoyment from Crackers” and stars artist Larry Bell as young lothario who invites model Leon Bing to be his crouton of love. Miracle (1975) features artist Jim Ganzer as a man obsessed with the carburetor of a 1965 Mustang and actress Michelle Phillips in a tale about a strange day in the life of an auto mechanic.

The screenings are presented as part of MOCA by Moonlight at the Museum of Contemporary Art, located at 770 NE 125th Street, North Miami. For more information, visit www.mocanomi.org or call 305 893 6211.
