Poet, guitarist, statesman, folksinger – Manno Charlemagne has been a voice of the Haitian people for more than 30 years. His music stems from the folk twoubadou style, anchored by his love of sophisticated jazz and world rhythms and his baritone voice.

Manno Charlemagne will present a lecture at Florida International University Latin American and Caribbean Center on Thursday July 19th, 10 AM to noon, in the Green Library Room 220. LACC presents the Haitian Summer Institute each year, offering students from around the world the opportunity to study Haitian language and culture. For details about this 15th annual Haitian Summer Institute, visit LACC online.

Capoeira Show (6 pm) – Featuring the young stars from LHCC capoeira dance class to open the night

Amigos Do Samba (6:30 pm) is a group of musicians who began jamming together together after taking music lessons at the Antonio Adolfo School of Music. Starting from classic Brazilian samba – the street music of Rio de Janeiro – the group delves into the range of Brazil’s cultural music. Their sounds range from raw drumming to refined choro, from candomblé to capoeira. And of course they guarantee listeners will be dancing.
