The Volvo Ocean Race Downtown Miami Race Village is a large scale production and 14-day event taking place in Bicentennial Park. Spanning over 27 acres overlooking the bay, the village will provide tourists and the local South Florida community a place to “Sea and be Seen” with an international and interactive race village that will showcase cultural arts, music entertainment, food, and more. Miami is the only North American stopover of this global “Super Bowl” of sailing.

With a rich history of sailing in the South Florida community and home to the U.S. Sailing Center, the Volvo Ocean Race committee was confident that the City of Miami would be the ideal North American stopover. Downtown Miami Village will consist of sailing and extreme water sports activities, educational programs for children of all ages, interactive pavilions, a 3-D Marine Cinema featuring the global race, music entertainment and wrap-around events. During the 14-day stopover the 6 professional race teams will gather points during the In-Port Race that counts toward the overall leader board and a Pro-Am race putting sponsors with the professionals. In addition, the festival will feature wakeboarding, water sports exhibitions, community cardboard canoe race, a classic steamboat race, Optimist Class Nationals, food, drinks, a Gala and more.

The Downtown Miami Race village will consist of dynamic entertainment, interactive pavilions and wrap-around events. Throughout the race village there will be various activities that children can engage in such as a 3-D cinema, which will give children a sense of what it is like to ride the world’s most extreme waves. Also, a grinding challenge, where participants put their strengths against their friends on the pedestal grinders which are the same ones the crews use on board. Kids will also have a unique opportunity to run on water with our on water challenge, Air Balls.

Also making an appearance at the race village is PUMA’s newly-launched mascot, Marmo who will spend time with children and their families to host Marmo’s Education Program. Marmo will make guest appearances at the PUMA Quad in the race village and will be on site to host a range of fun, ocean conservation education games, activities for young children and will lead events to encourage recycling drives and beach clean-ups. He will also be on hand for story- time readings of his new book.

Other activities to partake in at the village include: stand up paddleboarding lessons, sailing lessons, the Youth National Opti Championships, The Classic Steamboat Race, Academy Team Racing, Keep the Ocean’s Clean beach cleanup, Antique & Classic Auto and Boat Show, PUMA Social Club Truck, Special Mother’s Day activities; such as face painting, jugglers, unicyclist, petting zoo, and more! Don’t forget live music performances, amazing food, drinks and an experience you visitors will talk about for years.

This Miami stopover will provide the In-Port and Pro-Am Races taking place along the coast of Miami Beach. The six 70’ sailing yachts will race for points during the In Port Race and will offer excitement to festival goers and sailing enthusiasts.
