Antonio Ugarte. Organic Waters
January 13 – March 18
Organic Waters, a new exhibit of oil paintings by established Venezuelan born – American artist, Antonio Ugarte , explores the metaphoric significance and aesthetic depths of water, life’s essential liquid. Whether contained in pools, flowing free, unleashed in waterfalls and waves, or “dancing” in fountains, Ugarte’s artistic eye captures the paradox of water as both familiar and mysterious; ordinary yet illusionary. Ugarte paints water and flowers as a reflection of the spirit, a form of meditation. He sees water as “a primordial element” in life and the physical environment; a source of both energy and serenity. He uses water as a resource to explore the “aesthetic treatment on the surface of the canvas” and, at the same time, the “connotations mysteriously left behind the surface to be discovered by the observer.”

Flowers bring to the forefront of our minds to remain humble in our endeavors and to always hold the belief that beauty is only skin deep and that it is what is inside that truly matters. Water’s shape and color are critical elements in Ugarte’s work. According to the artist, “water is always working to become round”, symbolic of the “whole of the universe” and the life-force of the Chi. Ugarte lives and works in his studio in Coral Gables. Ugarte’s work hangs in the Museum of Contemporary Art in his native Valencia and in the museum of the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C. among others.
