Event Open to the Public; Bernard to Speak About How Everyone Benefits When We Feed the Hungry, as Explained in Her Book, Am I Really Hungry? 6th Sense Diet: Intuitive Eating

The public is invited to not only learn about how feeding the hungry can benefit everyone, but also to enjoy a delicious three-course dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Miami Beach’s Indomania restaurant. Jane Bernard, New York author of the book Am I Really Hungry? 6th Sense Diet: Intuitive Eating is partnering with the popular restaurant to host a cocktail reception/dinner benefiting Feeding South Florida™ (formerly Daily Bread Food Bank).

In Am I Really Hungry? Bernard provides a 21st century way to think about diet and eating: focusing on values and priorities, instead of calories and losing weight. One of the book’s chapters, The Lucky Ones, explains how to turn food and eating obsessionsinto a positive and productive part of life by tuning into food needs of others. She refers to how when we feed the hungry, everyone benefits. Bernard regularly speaks at benefits to raise awareness about the needs of the hungry.

Indomania restaurant proprietors Ineke and Pieter Both-Berends are co-hosting the event to raise awareness of local hunger, and specifically to help feed local hungry children. Chef Ineke, who cooks and eats intuitively, contributed two recipes to Am I Really Hungry? The menu for the event will consist of Indomania’s acclaimed Dutch-influenced Indonesian foods including a cup of Soto Ayam (featured in the book); rijsttafel, including 13 to 14 different dishes; and spekkoek, layer cake with a scoop of coconut ice cream.

Attendees will enjoy a short talk by Bernard about using the senses when eating, and intuitive eating. Jennifer Wescott, marketing manager of Feeding South Florida, will also speak briefly about how Feeding South Florida provides food for the more than 936,000 South Floridians who are food insecure.

Indomania will donate 75 percent of all food sales from the event to Feeding South Florida. Copies of Am I Really Hungry? will be on sale for $15.97 plus tax. For every book purchased, Bernard willgive $5 to Feeding South Florida.
