Over 20 Masquerade Bands, 6 Steel Bands and All-Star Lineup of Soca’s Heavyweights to Take Over the Streets of Miami Gardens and Sun Life Stadium on Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 12noon-11pm at 2011 Miami Carnival in the Gardens

6 October 2011-The City of Miami Gardens will play host to one of the biggest evocative Caribbean charged events with the “Miami Carnival in the Gardens” parade of bands and masqueraders on Sunday, October 9, 2011. The streets of Miami Gardens will be adorned with big, vibrant and colorful costumes,the infectious sounds of the steel bands playing. The parade kicks off at 12 noon and the live concert starts at 6pm. The distinguished list of Grand Marshals leading the parade include: Congresswoman Frederica Wilson,City of Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson, Miami -Dade County-Commissioner Barbara Jordan,Ambassador to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Dr. Neil Parsan,Miss Miami Broward Carnival, Miss Atlanta, Miss Miami Gardens, Miss Belize California,Miss Tropical California,Miss Caribbean USA, Miss Philadelphia, Miss Jamaica Universe .An important ingredient within the culture and fabric of the South Florida community, Miami Carnival in the Gardens truly has an economic impact that is a result of the estimated 250, 000 visitors that flock to the area.

The star studded musical line up includes Queen of Soca Artist Alison Hinds, (Big Man in Business)Iwer George, Sir Clarence Oungku Edwards(Antigua) Red Hot Flames, Roy Cape All Stars, Elizabeth Watley(St. Croix), Skinny Fabulous(St. Vincent), Tallpree(Grenada),Daddy Chess, Tanika and many more. Local South Florida artists include: Kehv, Julet, Malachi Greatness and Ploome Lewis.

Carnival Connoisseurs will enjoy the various textures of Caribbean food and drinks.The International Caribbean Village will showcase goods and services from the Caribbean. This year a mini health fair will also take place. Participating organizations include the DIVAFoundation founded in 1990. The 501(c)3 nonprofit organization has partnered with Miami Carnival in the Gardens to raise HIV/AIDS awareness and erasing stigmas. A passionate AIDS activist, Sheryl Lee Ralph is founding Director of “The Divinely Inspired Victoriously Aware (DIVA) Foundation” “I’m so honored and happy to be apart of this year’s carnival! It’s a natural fit that this year’s health awareness theme is HIV/AIDS.” Also at the health fair expo is Advocacy Building Initiative, Inc. (ABI, Inc.) Dr. Veda Bailey, Executive Director of ABI, Inc. in collaboration with agencies like Borinquen Health Center, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, CECOSIDA, Miami-Dade County Health Department, Broward County Health Department, and the Greater Than AIDS movement, stands committed to eliminating these drivers and building advocacy for much needed changes in HIV prevention programming to better serve Caribbean communities. “We urge Carnival attendees to take advantage of this opportunity to get educated, get tested, get involved. ABI Inc. along with collaborating partners will be at the Carnival, eagerly awaiting your enquiries and requests”, states Dr. Bailey.
