The Miami Rescue Mission and Borinquen Medical Center are teaming up to present a free community health fair.

The health fair will provide such screenings as cholesterol checks, HIV screening, glucose checks and pap smears as well as health related education on subjects such as STD prevention, smoking cessation and drug addiction counseling. Over two hundred men, women and children are expected to attend.

Miami Health Clinic Patient Care Coordinator, Gisela Bretones, said of the Community Health Fair, “The purpose of an event like this is to upgrade the overall health of our community. If we are able to help those in our community who may be homeless or underserved in a medical sense, it will go a long way to making their lives better.”

The Miami Health Clinic has been open since May of 2009, serving not only the formerly homeless residents of the Miami Rescue Mission but also the underserved community at large. In the past fiscal year of 2010-2011, the Miami Health Clinic provided over 92,000 units of medical service to the neediest of our community.
