Christmas Celebration to date for the Homeless and Needy of South Florida

Miami Rescue Mission – Beginning at 8:30 AM, over ninety volunteers from Aramark, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and other individual volunteers will start the day by providing coffee, fruit and pastries for those in attendance. Aramark, State Farm, Toy Town and other community organizations also have helped supply and collect toys for the needy children of Miami. The Christmas event will last from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM with entertainment including the Regeneration Singers (a group of the formerly homeless) as well as performances from the formerly homeless residents of the Miami Rescue Mission’s Center for Women & Children. The Christmas meal will be served at 11:00 AM with singles being served at the Center for Men and families being served at the Community Activity Center (directly across the street from the Center for Men); the celebration is expected to draw 1,000 people.

Broward Outreach Center: Hollywood – Beginning at 9:00 AM, the Christmas party will begin with over fifty volunteers helping celebrate with formerly homeless men, women and children. Live Entertainment will include performances by Apostolic Hands, Pentecostal Tabernacle, Island Faith Ministries and the formerly homeless residents of the Broward Outreach Center. Before the meal is served at 11:00 AM, families will receive Hope Tote bags filled with hygiene products and Christmas gifts that were donated from various corporations and individuals in the community.

Broward Outreach Center: Pompano – Beginning at 9:00 AM, over thirty individual volunteers will help give over 200 gifts to the children in attendance and at 10:00 AM, Santa Claus will arrive. All adults will receive a Hope Tote bag filled with hygiene products and clothes. A Christmas feast will be served at 11:00 AM, with wonderful music and festivities.

Rev. Ronald Brummitt, President of the Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers says, “It is a privilege and a blessing to be able to help provide meals and gifts to those in our community who need it the most. We want our homeless to know that they are not forgotten and that we love them. We also want to thank all of our donors and volunteers who help us make this wonderful day an awesome celebration for those that otherwise would have nothing or very little for Christmas.”

Since 1922 the Miami Rescue Mission (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization) Centers have served the homeless and needy men, women, and children of Miami. Every day the organization provides food, shelter, clothing, education, job training, spiritual direction and long-term rehabilitation programs in Miami, Hollywood and Pompano to nearly 1,000 homeless on a daily basis. The mission also has at-risk after-school and summer day camp youth programs. The Miami Rescue Mission started reaching out to the homeless in Broward County in 1992 and in 1997 the Broward Outreach Center in Hollywood was opened. Then in 2002 the Broward Outreach Center in Pompano Beach was opened to serve the homeless in the north end of Broward. For additional information go to:
