Frere Independent is proud to present the sixth edition of the PooL Art Fair in Miami Beach. Slated for December 3, 4 & 5, 2010 at the Carlton Hotel, PooL is the only exhibition to present great, unrepresented artists during Art Basel Miami Beach.

The simple, modest approach of the PooL Art Fair offers an exciting alternative to the “Art Fair” experience for dealers and collectors as well as the general public. PooL’s purpose is to create a meeting ground for outstanding artists, primarily those who do not yet have gallery representation. Contemporary art dealers, artist agents, emerging galleries, artists’ collectives, and non-profit organizations are also invited to apply to participate as exhibitors. The fair serves as an invaluable resource for the artistic community and the general public.

Our organization is committed to present to the world, talented artists that do not yet have representation. Frere Independent offers artists the opportunity to be a part of the unique and important cultural environment that manifests during Art Basel Miami Beach. It is also an opportunity for gallery owners, curators and other art enthusiasts to discover artists that are not shown in the other art fairs. Finally, artists are able to sell works while expanding their network as well as receiving invitations to exhibit or create site-specific works.

We select artists whose works are original, and challenging. Exhibiting artists use hotel guest rooms to display their work creating a unique and personal setting. We ask that they share with the public their most recent works.

The following artists will be participating:
Room 109: Aby Hassani

POCKET OF LOLLIPOPS
Their musical genre as sophisticated punk rock, their sound is noisy but organized, thoughtful and melodic. Visual art and Indie musical performance group Pocket of Lollipops brings together the talents of husband and wife team Tony and Maite performing at the Vernissage.

Party with DJ Trace.1NE from 8pm
DJ Trace.1NE will be performing from 8 pm in the lobby of the Carlton Hotel. An avid student of Hip Hop growing up and self described eclectic, he caught a local buzz during Ultra ’09 after spinning for the Scratch DJ booth opening many doors and building a good rep with every new opportunity. Sticking to the script, Dj Trace.1NE continues to let history live, spinning on classic vinyl turntables, and keeping a diverse/open format.

Special guest : Zulema Griffin
Zulema Griffin of Deux Conceptualiste Noir
Projected Movement 1, 2010
Single-Channel Video; 5:30 shown on Four Plasma screens in lobby
Deux Conceptualiste Noir invites Kenya (Robinson) to wear their designs, pose and walk around parts of New York City, partly associated with established worlds of finance and European culture, such as Wall Street and Lincoln Center. The performance is inspired by Frantz Fanon’s seminal work Black Skin,White Masks that scrutinizes the psychological impact of blackness in predominantly white cultures. The work therefore suggests a critical reading of the feelings of dependency and inadequacy through fashion and body language.

Outlaw will be in Miami at the PooL Art Fair with TAKE CARE, a group show of seven artists making work about biomedical ethics in the 21st Century. TAKE CARE is in Suite 119 at the Carlton Hotel. Kristina Arnold, Sher Fick, Jeanette May, Lindsay Obermeyer, Adrienne Outlaw, Libby Rowe, Sadie Ruben
Also Dec. 2 – 5 Adrienne Outlaw will distribute, free to the public, 100 limited edition Enhancer viewfinders in public locations throughout Miami. As part of a multi-phase artwork addressing the ethics of pharmacological neuroenhancement, Outlaw has distributed some 400 of these brain-shaped, viewfinders in such places as Bangkok, Sao Paulo, Santiago, Copenhagen, Berlin, Costa Rica, Atlanta, Nashville, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and now Miami.
Adrienne Outlaw grounds her interdisciplinary practice in a rigorous commitment to craft.
Her often interactive work is informed by ethical issues developing with the rapid advancement of biotechnology. She is the recipient of grants, awards, and fellowships from such places as the Elizabeth Firestone Graham Foundation, Tennessee Arts Commission, and the Virginia Center for Creative Arts.
As part of her practice, Outlaw also writes, curates and runs programs for artists. She holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MLAS from Vanderbilt University.

We are excited to announce the Bu2 Suite at the Carlton Hotel during this year’s edition of the PooL Art Fair in Miami Beach. This year in Miami Beach these artworks will be on view at the site of the fair and on the website as well.
Access to the Bu2 suite will be available to all-access cardholders to relax and enjoy complimentary Nespresso and wine and look at a selection of Art Work for sale.
Artworks will be available for acquisition online this Friday.
