That 70’s Party at The Manor Nightclub 10/7/10

“That 70’s Party”
October 7th, 2010, Thursday, 9pm-3am
The Manor Nightclub
2345 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors, FL, 33305

October 7th, 7:30-11pm, The Manor Complex (2345 Wilton Drive, Fort Lauderdale) will help our World by hosting a Smart Ride fundraiser called “That 70’s Party”. A benefit for the Smart Ride Team 995 where 100% of all the proceeds raised goes to 6 HIV/AIDS charities here in South Florida.

There are not many fundraisers that contribute 100%. This benefit is extraordinary because it is attracting people (Gay and Straight) from all over South Florida for one cause… to combat HIV/AIDS.

On November 19th at 5am, the Smart Ride Team 995 will be bicycling, along with over 1000 other riders and volunteers, 165 miles from Miami to Key West for all the funds that are raised! We want everyone to know that you can come and have a great time, be entertained and, at the same time, help a great cause!

October is Halloween month and for “That 70’s Party” guests are requested to dress in 70’s attire, walk the roped off “Red Carpet” and pose “Academy Award” style for the magazine cameras and enter the 70’s. 70’s Show clips and commercials will be playing on all the video screens! The MANOR Complex will be transformed into the 70’s by VISUAL XS (Vizcaya White Party), donating their services and props to transform the Manor Complex into the 70’s. It’ll be spectacular!

We are proud of the entertainment line-up that has joined our cause. The international and legendary STUDIO 54 and NY SAINT DJ, Robbie Leslie, (www.RobbieLeslie.com) will be transporting our guests “back to where it all began” with intermittent entertainment (STUDIO 54 and NY SAINT style).

Special appearances that night include our life-long friend, HIV activists and supporter, International Gold and Platinum album award winning STYX’s co-founder and bass guitarist, Chuck Panozzo, (www.ChuckPanozzosPlace.com) and (www.STYXworld.com) who will be taking time off from their current “Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight” tour to perform their triple platinum hit “Come Sail Away” to help raise Smart Ride funds for HIV/AIDS. Also Jennifer Carbonell and Tony Cruz, both of whom have recent numerous hits on the Billboard dance charts will be performing that night.

Our Smart Ride Team 995 consists of 10 members so far. The diversity of our team represents the community, from ages 24 to 54, all bicycling 165 miles from Miami to Key West Nov 19th. Most of our team is doing this for their first time. There are four of us who are veterans. The team so far is Maritza Bedoya who says “I’m 54 but will be a hot Mama of 55 for the ride”. Butch Davison, 48. Amber Bishko, 24, of JuiceBlendz. Charlie Reynolds, 36 an accountant. Erich Sissel, 32, a project manager at Citrix. Richard Bryant, 46, at the Sheraton Hotel. Al Magdaleno, 45, Zach Spitzer, 28. Chris Rodriguez, 29, Dan Robichaud, 49, from TROPICS Restaurant.

The community has really pulled together for our team 995. The new owners of the Corner Pub, Shannon and Anthony, recently had a fundraiser and raised $636.00 for HIV/AIDS. They are still selling Jell-O shots for the entire month of Sept for our cause!

JuiceBlendz will be hosting 3 nights of fundraisers, Sept 22, 29, and October 4 from 4pm-9pm. They are giving a whopping 20% of all sales and general admission tickets for “That 70’s Party” will be discounted 50% with a purchase for the three fundraiser nights.

We want everyone to know our Team 995 sponsors and supporters, who have gone to great lengths for our community. MANORS Complex, GeoVax HIV/AIDS vaccines (www.GeoVax.com ) currently in their 2nd human clinical trials approved by the FDA and National Institute of Health (NIH) with a promising AIDS vaccine that is 87% effective (we are on the way to a vaccine!), JuiceBlendz, Regal Transportation, Sheraton Hotel Fort Lauderdale Airport, The Corner Pub, Chic Optique, Island City Fitness, TROPICS Restaurant and The Electric Bicycle Store (guests will be able to bid on electric bicycles at dealer prices for “That 70’s Party”)

We also like to thank the Smart Ride 7 Sponsors. With out them, there wouldn’t be a Smart Ride. (Olive Garden, Rosie’s, Life Way Inc., Starbucks, AMR, and many more!) These organization provide food, water and medical services etc to the riders during the two day trek!

On another note, two members of the team, Al Magdaleno and Rich Bryant, have started a tradition 8 years ago on Christmas Day and are invited. They give out food and gift calling cards to the homeless in our community. This has been a rewarding experience to all that participate and usually brings a tear and a smile at the same time.

Last year, we gave some homeless people the opportunity to call their family to just let them know that they are alive or just have a meal when they didn’t know if they were going to eat. We have purchased these cards at our own expense, but last year The Avenue Project (www.TheAnevueProject.org ) joined us and was so touched that they nominated us this year to receive $5,000.00 in the Pepsi Refresh Project. Out of 10,000 applicants, we are number 97 so far. We have to be in the top ten to get the grant. It’s about voting! We would be so excited to receive the award because we always run out of cards to give.

Last year, there was a homeless girl who had a baby that needed medicine and we ran out of cards but reached in our pockets and helped her. We were personally broke for Christmas but it didn’t matter. Another time, this guy started crying on a beach bench and repeatedly said “God bless you, I didn’t know if I was going to eat tonight for Christmas”.

Others couldn’t believe we weren’t with a religious cause and were so thankful. Chuck Panozzo approached a very young kid two years ago that said he didn’t need it, only to be approached later by the same kid in tears saying “Sir, I could really use that, I haven’t eaten in two days”.

Another girl hadn’t called her family in over a year and the guy, who gave her a calling card, in tears, gave her one. He had a similar situation with his nephew who was out on the streets and his family hadn’t heard from him in over a year. He couldn’t help crying as he gave her the calling card and made her promise to call her family.

All are welcome to participate this Christmas and we ask you to please vote at www.refresheverything.com/theavenueproject
