SoBe Arts is a small organization making a beautiful impact and I know of few other organizations where every dollar is leveraged so successfully into many more. The SoBe Arts faculty are professional musicians, actors, and dancers who provide top-quality arts instruction to children, teens, and adults, including hundreds of at-risk youth. SoBe Arts serve youth based on their potential and talent — regardless of income — and most students come from low-income families and benefit from invaluable exposure to classical instruments, chamber ensembles, and other performing arts.

In this difficult recession the institute has seen its share of government funding cut dramatically and stands in dire need of private donations to continue the fantastic work it does in making our community, indeed the world, a better place.

SoBe Arts is located in a charming but overlooked corner of Miami Beach, where the arts are bringing back to life some of the area’s oldest buildings — the beautiful Carl Fisher Clubhouse, and the long-dormant Little Stage Theater that was re-opened by SoBe Arts in January. Stop in to hear their popular professional chamber concerts, see multi-media talks by noted artists, or experience innovative theater in a new and intimate setting.

During the time we come together at my house on Saturday night, we will take in the SoBe Arts Youth Chamber Ensemble and see first hand the work the institute does with kids, hear classical guitarist and SoBe Arts professor Carl Ferrari and virtuoso violinist Luis Fernandez perform as well as mingle with an incredible group of fantastic people. Videos from SoBe Arts performances, such as “Toons ‘N Tunes” from Sleepless Night will be going on regularly. We will have a FULL open bar set-up in the jungle in the back serving top-shelf liquor from start to finish — a bar I am setting up not sponsors — so it will be first rate and go all night. Also hors d’oeuvres from a special guest celebrity chef will make the rounds. Furthermore, DJ Vidal — the resident DJ for Diesel (South Beach) and an opening act for Danny Tenaglia during Winter Music Conference will be spinning his grooves throughout the night. If you haven’t heard him before you’re in for a treat.

It’s going to be good. And it would mean a lot to me if you could join us or help in any way. We’re asking for a minimum donation of $40 — about what two drinks cost at Mynt –with every single penny going to SoBe Arts in their hour of need. If you find you can give more, it would be a beautiful thing.

SoBe Arts has set up a special link to donate for the party via Paypal. While we will be collecting donations at the door it would be really cool if you could settle a donation before arriving.

Thank you, thank you, thank you: for your help, your friendship and I look forward to welcoming you to what will be a great coming together at my house on May 22nd!
