Painters that have never experimented with abstraction, do so now. They have come together at Cremata Gallery for the show “Abstractomicina”, which includes 80 works in total. Forty-seven renowned contemporary artists present paintings specially completed for this exhibit, departing from their usual métier, while maintaining their personal style. In addition, ten sculptors, plus a selection of paintings by twenty-three masters never exhibited before, will help us remember, comprehend and appreciate the Havana of the 50’s.
An installation by Aldo Menendez submerges the observer in the construction of modern Havana, buildings that were raised up surrounded by scaffolding, which served as inspiration for the constructivist movement, and brings to mind the works of Mario Carreño, Jose Mijares and Hugo Consuegra.
Some say neo-abstraction is what is happening now …who knows!!! But what is clear is that the exhibit “Abstractomicinaâ€, serves as an antidote for the excessive use or abuse of figuration, it’s refreshing and has no secondary effects.
Artists included in “Abstractomicina” are Gustavo Acosta, Ana Albertina, Julio Antonio, Jorge Arango, Néstor Arenas, Juan Asencio, Waldo Balart, Yovani Bauta, Mario Bencomo, Giovanni Bosch, Adriano Buergo, LuÃs Cabrera, Carlos Cárdenas, Alberto Jorge Carol, Ramón Carulla, Jorge P.
