Opening Reception, Saturday, October 25th, 2008
800 Lincoln Road Gallery, 7 – 10 PM
Free and open to the public.

The story ‘Just then Mischief made its way outside…’ is a fictional tale of a small humanoid creature aptly named Mischief and personified by artist Venessa Monokian’s work. Mischief laid in wait underneath people’s houses plotting to join the topside world shown in Luis Garcia-Nerey’s sculpture Bridge Elsewhere. Every day planning to escape from its hive (Natasha Duwin) making plans that appear to us as patterns made by water or erosion (Jill Hotchkiss). Eventually Mischief finally figured out how to break from its suburban bonds using characters created in the works of Luisa Mesa, Neysa Jin-Felker, and Nina Surel, leaving the viewer to wonder, ‘just what will Mischief do now that its bonds have been broken’.
This show was constructed as a collaborative effort between the newly juried artists ushered into the ArtCenter/ South Florida from the year 2007 and the current Director of Exhibitions Jacquenette Arnette.
All the artists involved were juried into the Artist-in-Residence program in 2007 and have successfully completed and fully integrated into working in the ArtCenter’s community of artists.
