The festival, which attracts audiences worldwide to trendy South Beach, FL, will feature an extraordinary three-day line-up of award-winning jazz artists performing in three ticketed and seven free performances. Orchestra Miami and Magic City Opera join forces to perform two exciting masterpieces in a Centennial Celebration for legendary composer Leonard Bernstein. Trouble in Tahiti, an opera in one act, is a candid portrait of the troubled marriage of a young suburban couple. Arias & Barcarolles, Bernstein’s last major piece, is a very personal song cycle composed for mezzo-soprano and baritone and addresses matters relating to family. Both pieces will be performed by critically acclaimed American baritone Gabriel Preisser (as Sam in Trouble in Tahiti and baritone soloist in Arias & Barcarolles) and Caitlin McKechney (as Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti and mezzo-soprano soloist in Arias & Barcarolles). The opera will be directed by Michael Yawney and conducted by Orchestra Miami’s Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi with costume design by Lauren Constantine. Tickets start at just $20! Join us for a special VIP Tahitian party! For $55, enjoy an exclusive pre-concert reception that will include complimentary drinks and light bites, including a signature Tahitian Rum Punch, featuring Miami’s original award-winning rum, Miami Club Rum and premium seats to the performance!

Two performances only! Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, 8:00 PM at Pinecrest Gardens (11000 SW 57 Ave, 33156) and Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, 4:00 PM at the Alan & Diane Liebman Theater at the Michael-Ann Russell JCC (18900 NE 25 Ave, 33180). Free parking at both venues! For tickets and information, please visit www.orchestramiami.org or call (305) 274-2103.

An international group of renowned classical musicians from the English Chamber Orchestra, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will gather to perform a series of three intimate concerts for Surfside visitors and residents this holiday season.
Named after the founder’s late father, who was a part-time Surfside resident and music lover, The Glenn Douglas Winter Chamber Music Festival will run from Saturday, December 29, 2018, to Wednesday, January 2, 2019, and will feature uniquely themed concerts with pieces ranging from Mozart and Beethoven to Schulhoff and Britten.

“Although my father was not a musician, he was passionate about music, as well as his second home here in South Florida,” said event founder and violinist Shana Douglas. “It is in an honor to pay tribute to his legacy by bringing world-class musicians to Surfside. I know that he will be with us in spirit as we celebrate the joys of life and music this holiday season.”

Douglas will be joined by violinist Winona Fifield, violist Jessica Chang, cellist Adam Satinsky and soprano Shir Rozzen. The three-concert series will kick off with “Let us Serenade You” on Saturday, December 29, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour and conclude with “Fantasies and Remembrances” at the same venue on Wednesday, January 2, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person for each event, including a complimentary glass of champagne.

The tea-time matinee, “A Gypsy New Year’s Eve,” will be held on Monday, December 31, at 2:30 p.m. at the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club. Tickets are $30 per person and include tea or coffee.

To make it a “staycation” holiday, concertgoers can choose from Surfside’s luxurious hotels: the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club, Grand Beach Hotel Surfside or Residence Inn by Marriott Miami Beach Surfside.

Saturday December 8 at 8 PM: The South Motors Jazz Series at Pinecrest Gardens presents Christian McBride’s New Jawn. McBride can be likened to a force of nature, fusing the fire and fury of a virtuoso with the depth and grounding of a seasoned journeyman. With a career now blazing into its third decade, the Philadelphia native has become one of the most requested, most recorded, and most respected figures in the music world today. Raised in a city steeped in soul, McBride moved to New York in 1989 to pursue classical studies at the Juilliard School. There he was promptly recruited to the road by saxophonist Bobby Watson. Call it a change in curriculum: a decade’s worth of study through hundreds of recording sessions and countless gigs with an ever-expanding circle of musicians. Currently he hosts and produces “The Lowdown: Conversations With Christian” on SiriusXM satellite radio and National Public Radio’s “Jazz Night in America,” a weekly radio show and multimedia collaboration between WBGO, NPR and Jazz at Lincoln Center, showcasing outstanding live jazz from across the country. He brings that same breadth of experience to bear as Artistic Advisor for Jazz Programming at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC). In March 2016, Mr. McBride became artistic director of the now 63-year-old Newport Jazz festival — taking the reins directly from its 91-year-old co-founder, George Wein.

Featuring: Christian McBride, bass; Justin Faulkner, drums; Josh Evans, trumpet; Marcus Strickland, sax.

Pinecrest Gardens is located at 11000 SW Red Road. Tickets are $35-$40 at https://www.pinecrestgardens.org/entertainment/concerts-theater-dance/south-motors-jazz-series or 1.877.496.8499. (For pre-concert dinner reservations and info call 305.988.5089.) Music courtesy of KCC Productions.

Calling all art and foodie enthusiasts! Naked Taco, located in the prime of South Beach, has teamed up with extremely talented artists and brilliant chefs to bring to life a Food Porn Art Exhibit. It took 3 award winning chefs teaming up with 3 phenomenal artists and 3 stunning influencers to create art pieces that showcase the sexual side of food. Food Porn Art Exhibit features @wallflowe12 Photography by Michael Leoncio, Jay “JBon” Bonadio JR @TheUnsigned, and Peterson Guerrier @Mr_Guerrier joined forces with award-winning Chefs Ralph Pagano, Brad Kilgore, and Max Santiago to create art pieces unlike any other.

Seen through the lens and photographed for the food-meets-art collaboration are influencers Bibiana Julian, TV personality, Astrid Bavaresco and one of Miami’s top females DJ’s, Michelle Pooch. Each photograph went through a process of artistic expressions created by Michael Leoncio @Wall- flowe12, Jay “JBon” Bonadio JR @TheUnsigned, and Peterson Guerrier. All three artists alongside the chefs brought a different and unique aspect to each art piece.

Michael Leoncio, known as @wallflowe12, is well known for tastefully depicting the nude human form with his images of masked nude models. Jbon, also known as “The Unsigned Artist”, has been shaking up the art scene for over a decade while keeping a low profile. Starting as a silk screen artist at the age of 15, he has evolved those skills into an original, luxurious “Neo- Mosaic” shattered glass concept of collections that he creates today. And last, but definitely not least Peterson Guerrier; known for creating artwork on canvases which are unique to properly showcase his style. Using a traditional fine art technique fused with an urban flare my work takes turns speaking jazz in a midnight setting, and bleeding emotions from an animalistic perspective.
