Feeding South Florida March for Hunger 5K Walk/Run
Saturday, March 3, 7:30-10:30 a.m.
Hollywood Beach and Boardwalk
Hollywood, FL 33019

Registration for the event is $25 in advance and $35 the day of the race. To register, visit www.splitsecondtiming.com.

Feeding South Florida™ (formerly Daily Bread Food Bank) continues to “wage a war” against hunger with its 2nd Annual March for Hunger 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, March 3. The military-themed event, aligned with Feeding South Florida’s slogan “Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope,” will once again take place along the acclaimed Hollywood Boardwalk and beach area in Hollywood, Fla.

During the fun and healthy community event, participants will “run miles for meals” to help alleviate hunger for nearly 1 million residents of Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties who are food insecure. For every dollar raised, Feeding South Florida can provide for seven pounds of food and grocery items.

Members of the military, military vehicles, cots, camouflage nets, an army medic, tents and more will be on-site to enhance the military theme.

Corporate sponsorships, ranging from $2,500 to $25,000, are critical in helping Feeding South Florida to make the 2nd Annual March for Hunger a success, and are now available. Corporations may also provide product sponsorships by purchasing or providing gates, bibs, timing tags, food, tables, water, chairs, video/audio equipment, silent auction items, etc.

Current sponsors are Save-A-Lot, Best Buy, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, AvMed, Scripps Network Interactive, Lime Fresh Mexican Grill; in-kind sponsors are O.N.E. Coconut Water, CLIF Bars, Running Wild, Migdalia’s Awards, VSBrooks Advertising, Target, Whole Foods Market Aventura, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, The Sports Authority, PRP Wine International, CalNaturale Svelte and My Buddy Fruits.

“We hope that the 2nd Annual March for Hunger is even more successful than last year’s event,” said Anthea Pennant, director of external affairs for Feeding South Florida. “Not only is it a fun community event, but the funds raised can make a difference in the lives of the many South Floridians facing food insecurity.”
Businesses interested in becoming an event sponsor should contact Pennant at (954) 518-1832 or apennant@feedingsouthflorida.org.

Introducing the revolutionary concept of LIVE performances in combination with the visual arts! A new concept introduced by Adam White, gallery owner and Wendy White, playwright and founder of the New Light Theatre.

Adam White, Gallery owner, Gallery 101 went to see “Who Could Have Predicted” in Miami in May 2011 at Wynwood’s GAB studio and decided to offer Wendy a permanent home in his Fort Lauderdale gallery surrounded by cafes, restaurants, boutiques and other galleries. “Wendy and New Light Theatre will be able to cast plays every month and have a solid home base from which to create. We are very excited to have her here; she is an immense talent that promises to get even bigger and better with this wonderful association” states Adam White, Gallery owner, Gallery 101(www.gallery-101.com). As a result of seeing this production, the New Light Theatre was born – incorporating the revolutionary concept of combining visual arts and theatre.

Wendy’s newest series of large abstract impressionist paintings will also be on display at Gallery 101. “Combining art and theatre is a dream come true” states Wendy. “I am forever grateful to Adam White for opening his doors to the all of the arts at Gallery 101 – it is a true renaissance experience performing new original plays and sharing new paintings at the same time”

The playwright and director, Wendy White has written over 120 one-act plays and was a resident playwright, curator and director at the Kraine Theater in the East Village of New York City from 1984 to 1992, and at the Expanded Arts Theater Company from 1994 to 2001, in the Lower East Side of New York City. Her off-Broadway productions are the base for her new venue at the New Light Theatre. She recently produced The Jewish Nun to sold out audiences in Off-Broadway’s 59e59 Theatre and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.

In 2009, the New Light Foundation, Inc. represented the United States as Art Ambassadors by the 1-2-3 Kinderlachen e.V. foundation of Rottenburg, Germany by hosting the international “Global Gallery” project (www.123kinderlachen.org). During the course of this important project, the “world’s biggest canvas” emerged; painted by children – transcending all borders and conflicts.

The New Light Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit public foundation, has won numerous awards around the globe, has performed everywhere from Amsterdam to Paris; from Miami to Los Angeles to New York City; and has tackled subjects relating to women, love, politics, and Shakespeare. February 2nd 2012
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital
1005 Joe DiMaggio Drive
Hollywood, FL 33021

February is heart month, and what better way for kids to learn about having a healthy heart, then walking into a huge inflatable heart. One Beat CPR is sponsoring an all day event at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital on February 2nd to help raise awareness among kids about maintaining a healthy and well functioning heart.

The inflatable heart is an experience like no other; kids and adults alike can walk through an exact model of a human heart, while learning all the functionality and process that our extraordinary muscle does. There will be refreshments and Free Blue Bell Ice Cream and entertainment by The Coast 97.3, WFLC-FM.

Interactive Exhibits, the creators of the interactive inflatable heart, have partnered with a team of renowned medical advisors, each a board-certified M.D., that play a key role in the product development of each exhibit. The exhibit is filled with information, from the heart chambers and valves to heart disease and heart attacks.

Fourth Annual “Explore/Expo” To Spotlight LGBT and LGBT-Friendly Businesses For The Community
Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Adds Partnership with GLBT Travel Expo to Expand Travel-Related Resources

The LGBT community is a fiercely loyal consumer. According to a recent Harris Interactive national study, seven out of 10 LGBT consumers said they are likely to remain loyal to a brand they believe to be very friendly and supportive to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, even when less friendly companies may offer lower prices or be more convenient. More than 100 such businesses will be on hand for the local LGBT community and its allies when the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (MDGLCC) presents the “4th Annual Explore/EXPO.”

Visitors to Explore/EXPO will be able to stroll three floors of the dramatic Moore Building and speak with representatives from a diverse cross-section of businesses, including advocacy organizations, entertainment companies, financial services, health services, hospitality groups, real estate professionals, retail products, non-profit organizations and travel firms – especially travel firms. The event will also feature food and entertainment.

New for the “4th Annual Explore/EXPO” is an association with the GLBT Travel Expo whose mission is to connect LGBT travelers with gay-friendly airlines, hotels, destinations and related travel services. In addition to Miami, GLBT Travel Expos take place in Ft. Lauderdale, Chicago, Philadelphia and New York.

“Explore/EXPO is a one-stop shop for LGBT consumers who want to put their dollars where they count by patronizing gay and gay-friendly companies that actually want their business,” said Steve Adkins, president of the MDGLCC. “This year’s event is bigger, better and, ironically, more intimate with our move to the Moore Building in the Design District.”

In addition to the expo booths and free giveaways from many of the businesses, MDGLCC will host a free raffle drawing for attendees with prizes ranging from a pair of travel vouchers from Miami to South America, three nights at the Bolongo Bay Resort in St. Thomas, and two nights at the Palms Hotel in Kissimmee.

Following Explore/EXPO, attendees and exhibitors are invited to the Alberto Linero Gallery for a post-event reception featuring art, wine and hors d’oeuvres. Alberto Linero Gallery presents a refreshing spin on contemporary and modern art, showcasing mixed media works, sculpture and painting. The gallery features a compelling line-up of Latin American and international art.

The Miami-Dade Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce is the largest not-for-profit corporation in the county for gay and lesbian businesses. The Chamber’s mission is to promote a unified and thriving, gay and gay-friendly business and professional community throughout the county. The Chamber’s goals are to promote networking within the existing gay and gay-friendly business and professional community; to promote business opportunities for Chamber members; to promote Miami as a year-round, gay and gay-friendly tourist destination; to provide resources for its members; and to provide outreach from the LGBT community to other organizations.

The month of February in Miami usually consists of parties and food festivals, but don’t forget the popular Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival’s HBO Latin America “GLOW” (Gays & Lesbians On Wednesdays) movie series. The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival is excited to be presenting the screening of “Going Down in La La Land.” This will be the final screening of the inaugural GLOW Miami movie screening series, as the Festival prepares for their 14th Annual Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, which is held on April 27-May 6, 2012. Movie fanatics are invited to attend the pre-GLOW reception where guests will enjoy cocktails provided by Chambord Vodka and Herradura Tequila, while nibbling on a variety of hors d’ oeuvres provided by The Palace.

Going Down in La La Land
Based on the novel by Andy Zeffer, this film is a candid, sexy and outrageously funny outlook on what an actor can and will do in order to survive in Hollywood. After a rocky start at a dead-end job, young, handsome and ambitious Adam accepts a position as a production assistant for a gay porn company. Will Adam get trapped in this seedy underworld, or does he find a Hollywood movie with a happy ending?

Filmmaker Casper Andreas will be hosting a Q&A session via Skype directly after the film.

The GLOW Miami movie screenings will return in September 2012 and run through February 2013, and continue in 2014. HBO Latin America has committed to be the Sole Presenting Sponsor for an additional two years.
